Good-bye to an innovator..
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:50:11 PM »

I just heard that Les Paul died today at the age of 94. The musicians on this forum know who he is. He invented the famous "Les Paul" guitar.. He did other things as well, but to us lay people he was the guitar..a sad day...

Hi
All I knew about the man until fairly recently was that he created the Les Paul guitar.I did not realize what a phenomenal player he was until I saw a documentary about him a couple of years ago.He was certainly a great influence on many players and still gigging in his nineties. I never knew he was the first to develop multi tracking recording a real innovator.

Oh yes, I remember Les Paul and Mary Ford, I think she is, his wife and her singing . Man, 94 is pretty good and he kept active pretty much.

You are right, Terry. Mary Ford died in 1977, but they divorced in 1964. They said the conversion to rock ended their partnership and the marriage..sad..   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ6H68AcvQE
