My pineapple plant
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:44:20 AM »

Remember last spring when we talked about starting a pineapple plant? Here is a picture of mine started past spring. It will produce pineapples this coming season. It looks a little drab because I left it outside in too much rain a month or so ago.Its over 2 feet tall which is almost as tall as they get.

will you have to plant that in the ground before it will produce fruit? I have seen thousands of pineapples growing in the field in Hawaii, but can you grow them in a pot?? they get pretty big in the ground! cool plant!!

Its ready for a larger pot. It will go into a smart pot which self prunes the roots by air. Yes it will produce fruit in a pot. I've done it before. No store bought pineapple can even compare to one ripened on the plant. Sweet is an understatement.

That's a nice looking plant Roy.  I can't wait to see your little pineapple start growing from it, so keep the pics coming on it's progress.  I may even start me one too, as I would love to taste a truly fresh pineapple.

mercy, peace and love

roy,
hearty looking plant!  where did you get your plant from?  i love pineapple. i've bought organic pineapple, but i have never tasted it fresh from the plant.  our Creator surely new we would love sweet fruit.  just like, i guess, He loves for us to produce sweet fruit!  8)

I started this plant from the top of a store bought pineapple. I cut if off, peeled a few layers of leafs from the bottom; enough to have a stem for planting in the ground for support. I rooted within a few weeks. Every pineapple produces a new plant. Oh our God isn't He smart.

Awesome pineapple Roy. I love pineapple. They say it is really good for acid reflux. I read an article about it once.
