Okay, I'm back... What is this verse referring to?

Quote
"...it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good Word of God, and the power of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God again, and put Him to an open shame" (Heb. 6:4-6)

It seems to say that if you fall away, you can't be the elect, or something. Thanks.

Hi Lupac,

If you will notice in this passage of Scripture it is speaking to Believers, as Heb 6:4 says "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened."  Now when you go on to verse 6, this is not talking about falling away from your 'first love' which happens to all who will become Believers, it's those who already have been "enlightened."

Heb 6:6  if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

So now this is different, it is turning back into the world 'after' you know the truth.

Heb 10:26  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
v. 27  but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

So if you choose to go back into the world after learning the truth, God will not renew you back to Him a second time in this age.  Of course you will be saved, but it will be through the Lake of Fire.

Heb 10:38  Now the just shall live by faith;
       But if anyone draws back,
       My soul has no pleasure in him.

mercy, peace and love
