the first will be last and the last first
peter:
Hi everyone, I am new here and the only thing I am interested in doing is learning as much as I can. I have long read Ray's articles and most reread again and some again. In one article Ray refers to this enigmatic statement of our Lord, i.e. the last shall be first..first shall be last.." but I have never come across an explanation either by Ray or anyone else to date. Does anyone have a scriptural explanation? Thanks Peter
Deborah-Leigh:
Hello Peter
Your first post! Brilliant! Well done! :)
You say
--- Quote ---The only thing I am interested in doing is learning as much as I can.
--- End quote ---
I am glad that you have assimilated Rays teachings. It makes it easier to communicate with a person who has digested some of the rich food supplied to us in the banquet of Truths unveiled by Ray.
I want to share with you, that I too came here with a huge appetite! Even when I was a baby, I could consume a seemingly endless supply of bananas. Good for brain function you know! My parents left me with my uncle one day and he was staggered at the seemingly bottomless pit of my appetite. Not that I just ate and ate and ate, demanding more and more and more. NO. My uncle fed me and fed me and fed me and I just obeyed and swallowed and obeyed and swallowed and on and on. The bananas ended and my Uncle was amazed! I think I recall feeling how funny it was at the time .I remember his face! It brings a laugh to me even now. His eyes nearly popped out of his head! He was trying to gauge how many bananas I would have to eat before I could stop. Well, he didn’t have enough bananas for that and for THAT I can now THANK GOD! :)
Why do I tell you this? I tell you this because, like my Uncle who returned me to my parents as he was only baby sitting, the food will change and you will grow. My parents did not need to measure my ability to consume bananas. They were not numbering how many I could consume. Unlike my uncle, I get fed a variety of food not just one sweet gooey semi solid measuring the length, height breadth and depth of my stomach! I still enjoy bananas. That may never end! ;D
You have to eat your vegetables too. Brain food morphs into revelation after we have done the homework, the study, the digesting the work of eating the Word of God. The Word of God is not just bananas either.
So before I could go onto dessert, I had this little thing pop up denoting the signal, the mark, the revelation, the boundary, the limit of my consumption, that said to me that I was
.
2Ti 3:7 ever learning and never able to come to the full knowledge of the truth.
Boy oh boy, that changed the menu! Who fed me that? God, my Father did and what a huge blessing that was! I came to the end of that course. We all have to.
You ask, observe, enquire quote : Ray refers to this enigmatic statement of our Lord, i.e. the last shall be first..first shall be last.." but I have never come across an explanation either by Ray or anyone else to date. Does anyone have a scriptural explanation?
.....unquote :)
Peter, enigmatic statements of our Lord are just like bananas. Now, before you think I have lost the plot let me explain.
Ray has given us the TOOLS. Oh yes he has!
There is a Scriptural explanation to EVERYTHING. Oh yes there is!
You come back now and bring me a tool that you have found to begin to eat up this Word of God. Find a tool first. Is it the fork, is it the knife or the spoon. Is it pay attention to the Word or is it one of the twelve ways to understanding and unlocking the Word of God. You can do it. Find a utensil. What will it be. Take your time….Don’t just pick up anything and throw it back at me. You are going to have to use it yourself.
:D
There are many wonderful adults here that can help you learn how to eat without messing up. You are with the family of God. We are at the table and so minding my manners is a good beginning.
WELCOME to the Forum Peter. I said WELCOME last when it should have been said first. WELCOME AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME :)

Silvia Martin:
HI Arcturus,
I think I read about it somewhere in Ray's papers. Sorry, I don't have the verse or link.
He said something like this: God is going to choose the people that are at the bottom of the food chain...the poor... the weak...the uneducated...and sets them above the ones that think they're at the top....the rich ...the ones that think they know all about God. The ELECT will judge the rest of humanity.
Silvia
P.S. Somebody, please clean this mess up ;D

Now I do not know any place where Ray has discussed this phrase "the last will be first, and the first last." But I did look through the Scriptures and I think there are keys in there to understanding this, here is what I found.
Mat 20:10 But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius.
v. 11 And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner,
v. 12 saying, "These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.'
v. 13 But he answered one of them and said, "Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
v. 14 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.
v. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?'
v. 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen."
Mark 9:34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.
v. 35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."
Mat 23:11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
v. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
v. 13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
v. 14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
v. 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell (gehenna/judgment) as yourselves.
Mat 12:45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation."
Mat 19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
v. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
Num 24:20 Then he looked on Amalek, and he took up his oracle and said:
"Amalek was first among the nations,
But shall be last until he perishes."

Here is the temporary fate of most humanity:
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to DESTRUCTION, and many there be which go in thereat" (Matt. 7:13).
Did Jesus come to SAVE all those who enter the broad gate to "destruction?" YES HE DID:
"For the Son of man is come to SAVE that which was LOST" (Matt. 18:11)!
There it is!
There is what? Where does that verse say that Jesus came to "SAVE that which was DESTROYED?" Why right in the verse, of course. You see, the New Testament was written in GREEK, and in Greek, here is what Matt. 18:11 says: "For the Son of man is come to SAVE that which was apollumi." And just what does apollumi mean in English? Strong’s Greek Dictionary of the New Testament: "#622 {92x} apollumi to destroy, to perish, or lose" (page 37). Ninety-two times in the New Testament we read of "destroy, destruction, destroyed/perish, perishing, perished/lose and lost, and they are all translated from the same one word, apollumi! So whether one is destroyed, perished, or lost, it matters not to Jesus—HE SAVES THEM ALL!

Deborah-Leigh:
Hi Silvia
I do not know what mess you are talking about. :)
Kat, these Scriptures come to mind to follow on...
1Co 4:7 For who makes you to differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
1Co 4:8 Already you are full! Already you are rich! You have reigned as kings without us! And oh that indeed you did reign, that we also might reign with you.
1Co 4:9 For I think that God has set forth us LAST, the apostles, as it were appointed to death; for we have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men.
1Co 4:10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honorable, but we are despised.
And....
Heb 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, did not receive the promise,
Heb 11:40 for God had provided some better thing for us, that they should not be made perfect without us. 8)
