Well we have to go through the darkness and deception before we can come to the light and truth.

Tit 3:3  For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.

Luke 1:78  Through the tender mercy of our God,
       With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
v. 79  To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
       To guide our feet into the way of peace."
