Worshiping God
« on: April 22, 2010, 12:58:03 AM »

A strange thing happened last night.I was clicking out of the forum when suddenly there in front of me was Ray speaking on the video" Does God Learn" How that happened I do not know...it gave me a little fright........but I listened to Ray's words............A bit paraphrased.......

Coming here to learn this stuff. This is worship. Learning the truth of God and saying "I believe that-I can see that, this is wise, this is wisdom. This will help me be the kind of person God wants me to be." That's worship. You believe and Obey God. That's worship.
The thing that struck me was that I have never heard anyone before define what worship is .Pastors over the year I have heard tell us to worship, and the rather vague understanding is that we pray and that is the only thing  worship is....at least according to them.

I loved the clarity of what Ray was teaching, the clear direction, the results defined.

I am wondering if there are there any bible verses that tell us what worship is  in this way.....
                          Peace .....Ellie......

Oh I have to laugh and smile in appreciation of that Ellie. That is exactly how God works. In your face to get your attention and pull you up to His BIG Embrace.

Thank you for sharing. :)

1) Ray identifies what is invisible...."I believe that-I can see that, this is wise, this is wisdom." These are invisible appreciations of spiritual insights that produce belief, understanding and comprehensive insight into the Ways and Purposes of God.

UNDERSTANDING COMES ONLY FROM THE SPIRIT...L Ray Smith LOF 7

2) Ray identifies the desire that understanding the truth inspires in  ...This will help me be the kind of person God wants me to be."

The Truth God shows us that God's Spirit enables us to believe, see and appreicate through spiritual discernment that GOD provides through the Work of God's Spirit conforming us to His Image is the cause that makes us desire to be the kind of person God wants us to be.

Desire to please God and belief in God combine together as a Work of God, that produces true worshippers.

Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:

So the hour is come!

Here are a few...Psalms 119 is another great chapter on obeying the Lord and His Word.

Gen 22:18  in thy [Abraham] seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice

1 Sam 15:22  ...to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams

Job 36:11  If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures

Lev 18:5  Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

Luke 6:46  why call ye Me
[Jesus], Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Hope this helps,

I am entreating you, then, brethren, by the pities of God, to present your bodies a sacrifice, living, holy, well pleasing to God, your logical divine service, and not to be configured to this eon, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for you to be testing what is the will of God, good and well pleasing and perfect.

Mat 22:32 (MKJV)
"I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Mat 22:35-40 (MKJV)
35  Then one of them, a lawyer, asked, tempting Him and saying,
36  Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?

37  Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38  This is the first and great commandment.
39  And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

Worshiping God
1.Stop looking for excuses to defend ourself
2.no longer keep away from the god
3.Convinced that God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts

Hi Ellie!
I had an experience this morning while I was turning on my computer, and I can see how it relates to your post.
I learned a Bible verse when I was about 8 or 9 years old in vacation Bible school.
While My computer was coming up this morning the verse I had memorized years ago was going through my mind.

James 1:22,"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves".(KJV)
When I got on the web site, I read your post and I could see where what the Spirit was bringing back to my mind about that scripture, fell in to place about what Ray was saying about worship.
God does have a way of getting our attention doesn't he?

Thank you all very much for your replies..God certainly has his way........I still felt puzzled by it all. Then I felt compelled to look the  word worship up in my common dictionary.

Worship..dignity,honor,respect,religious reverence and homage, adorations devotions,a title of honor and respect used in addressing those of high station,to adore,to pay high honors to ,to venerate with religious rites,to idolise,to perform religious service............to attend church.........

This last..to attend Church.really struck home.

A few years ago now I was still uncomfortably involved in the church I belonged to.Some of the local ministers got together and decided that they would have a special time put aside to worship God.The lights were dimmed, candles were lit and soft music was playing. All sat around in a circle watching  a screen with peaceful scenes playing on it.
We were told that we were just to spend time with God ,move around as we pleased and express ourselves as God directed.
Well I felt terrible.I just could not do this. This was no different to me than some new age gathering, communing with the mother ship or some such thing.I watched people lie on the floor, stretch themselves out in front of the screen to pray, weave and sway about in a dance of some kind.
Tears welled up in my heart it seemed and before they spilled all over the place,I walked out. I was followed by one of the ministers who pronounced that God was doing a powerful work in me.I agreed but certainly not with his idea of it.The only thing I had felt like doing in there was to pray away evil spirits.
With the greatest relief I left.
Now all this time I have not had the right idea of worship, not complete, not in order,a rather damaged and fractured view, tainted by this and other experiences and I remembered it all.

Oh thank you God! This little thing it seems,is such  joy to me .It is a healing for me of quite some damages. When the truth sits in your heart, there is such a feeling of love. Thank you all again, all your responses have their place in God's plan. And thank you Ray for speaking it plain.... :)

Amen, Ellie.

Some more to consider.  Matthew chapter 6 is full of the contrast between what IS worship and what ISN'T.

Mat 6:1  Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 6:2  Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4  That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:5  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Mat 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mat 6:16  Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:17  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
Mat 6:18  That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat 6:20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mat 6:21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mat 6:22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mat 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon

And...

Joh 4:19  The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Joh 4:20  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Joh 4:21  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Joh 4:22  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24  God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Joh 4:25  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Joh 4:26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
