Worshiping God
1.Stop looking for excuses to defend ourself
2.no longer keep away from the god
3.Convinced that God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts

Joel:
Hi Ellie!
I had an experience this morning while I was turning on my computer, and I can see how it relates to your post.
I learned a Bible verse when I was about 8 or 9 years old in vacation Bible school.
While My computer was coming up this morning the verse I had memorized years ago was going through my mind.

James 1:22,"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves".(KJV)
When I got on the web site, I read your post and I could see where what the Spirit was bringing back to my mind about that scripture, fell in to place about what Ray was saying about worship.
God does have a way of getting our attention doesn't he?

Joel

Ellie:
Thank you all very much for your replies..God certainly has his way........I still felt puzzled by it all. Then I felt compelled to look the  word worship up in my common dictionary.

Worship..dignity,honor,respect,religious reverence and homage, adorations devotions,a title of honor and respect used in addressing those of high station,to adore,to pay high honors to ,to venerate with religious rites,to idolise,to perform religious service............to attend church.........

This last..to attend Church.really struck home.

A few years ago now I was still uncomfortably involved in the church I belonged to.Some of the local ministers got together and decided that they would have a special time put aside to worship God.The lights were dimmed, candles were lit and soft music was playing. All sat around in a circle watching  a screen with peaceful scenes playing on it.
We were told that we were just to spend time with God ,move around as we pleased and express ourselves as God directed.
Well I felt terrible.I just could not do this. This was no different to me than some new age gathering, communing with the mother ship or some such thing.I watched people lie on the floor, stretch themselves out in front of the screen to pray, weave and sway about in a dance of some kind.
Tears welled up in my heart it seemed and before they spilled all over the place,I walked out. I was followed by one of the ministers who pronounced that God was doing a powerful work in me.I agreed but certainly not with his idea of it.The only thing I had felt like doing in there was to pray away evil spirits.
With the greatest relief I left.
Now all this time I have not had the right idea of worship, not complete, not in order,a rather damaged and fractured view, tainted by this and other experiences and I remembered it all.

Oh thank you God! This little thing it seems,is such  joy to me .It is a healing for me of quite some damages. When the truth sits in your heart, there is such a feeling of love. Thank you all again, all your responses have their place in God's plan. And thank you Ray for speaking it plain.... :)

Dave in Tenn:
Amen, Ellie.

Some more to consider.  Matthew chapter 6 is full of the contrast between what IS worship and what ISN'T.

Mat 6:1  Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 6:2  Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4  That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:5  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Mat 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mat 6:16  Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:17  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
Mat 6:18  That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat 6:20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mat 6:21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mat 6:22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mat 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon

And...

Joh 4:19  The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Joh 4:20  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Joh 4:21  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Joh 4:22  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24  God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Joh 4:25  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Joh 4:26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
