2 Cor 5 :18

In this verse is the speaker speaking of himself who is given the work of reconciliation to the called only and NOT to the rest of the world. Gets a little confusing .

2 Cor 5:18  Yet all is of God, Who conciliates us to Himself through Christ, and is giving us the dispensation of the conciliation, how that God was in Christ, conciliating the world to Himself, not reckoning their offenses to them, and placing in us the word of the conciliation. [CLV]

Excerpt from Lake of Fire part 16-D4 (http://bible-truths.com/lake16-D4.htm):

RECONCILIATION: "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation [Gk: 'conciliation']" (II Cor. 5:19). Strong's #2643, "katallage, restoration to the divine favor, atonement."

As it should be translated "conciliation" rather than "reconciliation," the favor is only from God's position as yet. God is conciliated with the world because of His Son's sacrifice. However, since the world is not yet conciliated to God, it is as yet only One-sided.

There will not be true Reconciliation until the world is spiritually conciliated back to God. And so God changes His judgment toward us, seeing that He no longer holds us in condemnation for our sins and disobedience, and we are changed from a state of condemnation to a state of reconciliation with God. And this great change brings us to our next word

Gallenwalsh,

Paul says he is given the 'word' of conciliation not the 'work'...Christ does the work [John 4:34, 5:36]. You can read the excerpt above for further clarification on 'conciliation'.

Hope this helps,

Marques

Rom 5:11  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Rom 11:15  For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

This is the order of what happens to sin:

1.   Forgiveness
2.   Repentance
3.   Cleansing
Ref: Transcript of a talk by L. Ray Smith about Repentance

Repentance comes from the goodness of GOD that leads to repentance. No "goodness" of man can do God's work or bring His Girft of change and conversion.

Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of GOD leadeth thee to repentance?
