need computer help
Patrick:
Hey yall, I think I have a bug in my computer that I can't get rid of. I have McAfee anti-virus and anti-spyware programs; no virus has been found, but I continue to get messages from the spyware program about being infected. Most of the problem I see is in Internet Explorer. I get messages from IE about downloading programs to fix the problem, but I am not certain that the messages are truly from IE. And, every so often I get pornographic/casino pop ups and all my pop up controls are enabled; all of this is thru IE.
This all started by opening a link that a friend sent; he says he did not send the e-mail.
Furthermore, when I respond to a post in the forum, I get the message that my information may be viewed by others and when I click yes to go ahead and send the info, I then get a spyware message suggesting I scan my system. I even get this just by opening some web sites. I don't truly understand all this cookie stuff and it is frustrating.
Are there any virus/spyware/whatever stuff that you guys reccomend over McAfee or should I call a PC doctor?
Patrick
ps; I got the scan now message just for clicking preview when I made this post.

Sounds like you need a better "anti-Adware" or "Ad-ware - protection". I use a "Lavasoft Ad-Watch SE". And I would also recommend getting "Mozilla Firefox" instead of Internet Explorer. Just do a "Google" search for 'Mozilla Firefox' download it, and use that instead. Also 'Norton' is better than Mcafee in virus protection, that's what I use.
Also sounds like most of those (if not all) are just pop up ads that say your computer is infected (when it really isn't) just so you download their program which includes viruses
and spy-ware etc...
Hope that helps,
Sorin

Hey Patrick,
Her are the things I use and I never have a problem. They are all free too
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload2.jsp
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1/
http://www.avantbrowser.com/
If you download these four products you will not have any more problems. The most important is the Zonelabs Zone alarm. You need this.

Sorin,
I used moxilla firefox for awhile and I found the security excellent but I found it very slow. Just my opinion. The avant browser has good security (excellent combined with zone alarm) and seems to be alot faster.

Hi Patrick,
Try using this, it really works, and better yet it is free! You can upgrade for a nominal fee........... I use it weekly and it helps.
