Murphy And The Bricks
« on: November 08, 2010, 06:12:07 AM »

Sometimes we hang on to things in life, believing them to be valuable.
This is one Irish builders tale about hanging on; and letting go!

Enjoy!

Murphy And The Bricks

Dear sir I write this note to you
To tell you of my plight
For at the time of writing it
I'm not a pretty sight
My body is all black and blue
My face a deathly grey
And I write this note to say
Why Murphy’s not at work today

Whilst working on the fourteenth floor
Some bricks I had to clear
But to toss them down from such a height
Was not a good idea
The foreman wasn't very pleased
He is an awkward sod
And he said I had to cart them
Down the ladder in my hod

Well moving all these bricks by hand
It was so very slow
So I hoisted up a barrel
And secured the rope below
But in my haste to do the job
I was to blind to see
That a barrel full of building bricks
Was heavier than me

And so when I untied the rope
The barrel fell like lead
But clinging tightly to the rope
I started up instead
I shot up like a rocket
until  my dismay I found
That half way up I met
The bloody barrel coming down

The barrel broke my shoulder
As to the ground it sped
And when I reached the top
I banged the pulley with my head
Still clinging tightly to the rope
From this almighty blow
Whilst the barrel spilled out half it's bricks
Some fourteen floors below

Now when these bricks had fallen
From the barrel to the floor
I then outweighed the barrel
And so started down once more
Still clinging tightly to the rope
My body racked with pain
And halfway down I met
The bloody barrel once again

The force of this collision
Halfway down the office block
Caused multiple abrasions
And a nasty case of shock
Still clinging tightly to the rope
I fell towards the ground
And landed on the broken bricks
The barrel had scattered round

I lay there bleeding on the ground
I thought I'd passed the worst
But the barrel hit the pulley wheel
And then the bottom burst
A shower of bricks rained down on me
I didn't have a hope
As I lay there bleeding on the ground
I let go of the bloody rope

The barrel now being heavier
It started down once more
And landed right across me
As I lay there on the floor
It broke three ribs and my left arm
And I can only say
I hope you'll understand
Why Murphy’s not at work today !!!

Song I learned some time back, never fails to amuse  ;D

That’s a really lovely happy, and funny parable Grape!

You’ve just got to love Murphy!

No blame on the Foreman either, who did tell Murphy to cart the bricks down in his hod...LOL :D :)

The Forman is like God when He told Adam not to eat of the tree.... :D ;D

Likewise, Murphy decided to do things based on his own motives and reasoning's. This went  above the way and expertise of the Foreman! This is familiar to us all! We are all just like Murphy!

Hey Grape ~ that bucket has been going ever since God made Satan. :D ;D

I don't know if Murphy will be fired if he ever gets back to work or if he'll be in line for promotion for the experience that might elevate his expertise won by a real good battering!

We all get to be Murphy somewhere somehow in our own circumstances that batter and bruise us for trying in the lack of seeing the better way! The question remains, will Murphy be fired or promoted when he returns to work? :D ;D  ;) Let Mercy prevail! ;D

Blessings

Poor old Murphy!
Now let's see, I can't let go of:
- Tolkien's "The Hobbit" - Also Anne Rice's collection of vampire books which I must confess rather embrassingly, I quite enjoyed at the time.
- Long playing records of Santana (She's a black magic woman) The Temptations (Great, great music)
- Simon and Garfunkle The Sound of Silence/Bridge Over Troubled Water (I spent hours and hours listening and singing to that album) Roberta Flack...Mmmmmm

Help Mr Murphy!!

Thanks Grape for letting me delve back into the past and my memories...to me, they are not valuble, they only represent my memories, those long playing records and books are just sitting there collecting dust!

God's Blessings.
