Hands and Feet
Felix:
Hello Everyone
I have heard this in a couple of temporary christian songs. Within the song they will sing "we are Gods
hands and feet". I have never seen this in the bible. Am I missing something? I don't think that God
needs us for anything, particularly our hands and feet.
Also, I was watching TV last night and someone was quoating Charles Spurgeon as saying something
like this: If need be, I will even die for the Lord. Well, why would God need anyone to die for Him? He
died for us, right? How is it that such a famous bible educated preacher would think that God could
possibly need him for anything?
I believe that many christians think that their wittnessing plus God is what saves someone. But, I
don't think that God needs anyone. Am I on the right track?

Hi Felix. Scripture does describe 'us' as the body of Christ, and as various 'parts' like hands and feet knit together with Christ as the Head. So there is some truth to that statement.
It's really not worth debating whether or not a sovereign God could use some other means to do 'work' in this world. Of course He could. But we know from scripture that He uses things like the 'foolishness of preaching', and:
Rom 10:13-16 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
He also uses ministers of satan (who have not obeyed the gospel) like Dr. Spurgeon to blind the church so that it can be said "who hath believed our report?"
It's not the messenger, that's for sure. It's the message.

Hi Felix
Yes, I think you are on the right path to understanding God.
God desires children.
That word NEED is like the word ALLOW. God doesn’t allow, God CAUSES. God doesn’t NEED, God desires!

Hi Dave
Thank you for your reply and advise. I had not thought of Christ being the head and we are the body.
Yes, we are the body and the body includes hands and feet. But, when I hear these songs it sounds
like God can't do some things without us. I know that all power and ability come from God.
On another subject, you were the first one to tell me to get out of Babylon. I have and it's wonderful.
Hi Arc
Thank you for the encouragement. I like what you said, that the word should be desire instead of
need. God desires to have children who obey, serve, and love Him. God will accomplish all of His
desires.

Felix,
I appreciate all that has been said by others in this thread.
God certainly wants and God desires to have children who obey, serve, and love Him.
But even more thrilling is the idea that The Creator God who has made everything and who
has all power and authority in the heaven and in the earth wants to share all that He has made with others.
He has devised a plan to carry out His desire to share ALL of His own attributes with us His little ones.
That is the description of a perfect Father that I try to focus upon.
Our inheritance is to share a responsible part of the operation of the Universe and in the lives of all of our brethren.
One family sharing creativity, love and joy forever.
