1Co 15:40

1Co 15:40  There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

Can somebody help me with the difference of celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies?  From what I have heard the mormons state these as a level of heaven.  Any help or links from ray's work would be helpful.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

These should help with your question.

                   Exposing the "Secret Rapture" Theory

what Paul is really teaching us in I Cor. 15:38-49? Let’s read it together:

v. 39 "Not all flesh is the same flesh, but there is one, indeed, of men yet another flesh of beasts, yet another flesh of flyers, yet another of fishes ..."

There are bodies celestial as well as bodies terrestrial. But a different glory, indeed, is that of the celestial yet a different that of the terrestrial, another glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars, for star is excelling star in glory ...

Thus also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is roused in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor; it is roused in glory. It is sown in infirmity; it is roused in power. It is sown a soulish body; it is roused a SPIRITUAL BODY ...

v. 45-47 "If there is a soulish body, there is a SPIRITUAL also. Thus it is written also, The first man, Adam, became a living soul; the last Adam a vivifying Spirit. But not first the spiritual, but the soulish, thereupon the SPIRITUAL. The first man was out of the earth, soilish; the second Man is the Lord out of heaven ..."

v. 48-49 "Such as the soilish one is, such are those also who are soilish, and such as the Celestial One, such are those also who are celestial. And according as we wear the image of the soilish, we should be wearing the image also of the Celestial."

Paul tells us that there are bodies terrestrial and gives us several examples of terrestrial bodies: men, beasts, flyers, and fishes. He also informs us that there are celestial bodies. What is the difference between them?

TERRESTRIAL: Keyword Concordance, the earth and the heavens on it. Webster’s, worldly; mundane, of the earth, consisting of land not water, living on land.

CELESTIAL: Keyword Concordance, ON-heavens, that part of the universe which is ON, or higher than.Webster’s, heaven, of or in the sky or universe, of heaven; divine, perfect.

SPIRITUAL: Keyword Concordance, having the qualities of spirit. Webster"s, adj. 1 of the spirit, 2 of or consisting of spirit; not corporeal.

PHYSICAL or SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION BODIES FOR THE WICKED & NON-BELIEVERS?

What else do we learn about the resurrection of God’s Elect?  What are some of the features of their newly resurrected bodies?

“…but the glory of the celestial [high, above, heavenly] is one, and the glory of the terrestrial [worldly, EARTHLY] is another” (Verse 40).

Which category do the Elect come in?  Now pay attention:  1Co 15:48-49  As is the earthy, such  ARE  they also that  ARE  earthy: and as is the heavenly, such  ARE  they also that are heavenly.  And as we have borne the image of the earthy, WE SHALL  also bear the image of the heavenly.

Notice that ONLY “we”  [God’s Elect], not “they,”  “…shall bear the image of the heavenly.”  Paul is speaking that “THEY, the earthy,” and “WE, the heavenly,” and only the “we” will “bear the image of the heavenly,” not “they,” the wicked who will be raised as tares to be burned in the Lake of Fire.
