The fall of Satan from heaven Revelation 12:9

Hi all!

We read in Revelations 12:9 "The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him".I am intrigued by why this war in heaven took place? Does it have any bearing towards our salvation?
Was it a war like most wars? Did Satan declare a war because he did not like the job he was given or the position he was given? I have tried looking for such answers but in vain.

“But this I confess … that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: and have hope toward God ….that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.” [Acts 24:14.15]

Hi Mbongiseni,

Here is an email.

When one believes that the statements in Revelation are literal, and that they
are in chronological order, that person's understanding will be about zero.  There
are many surprises in Revelation when we follow the instruction of understanding
that God gives us in the Scriptures. As long as we REFUSE to believe and obey
God's instruction, our spiritual understanding will be near zero.

Listen carefully:  This "war in heaven" is NOT LITERAL; it does not take place
in OUTER SPACE; it does not happen IN THE THRONE ROOM OF GOD; it does
not take place chronologically AFTER the wonder of a woman in Rev. 12:1, but BEFORE the beast comes up out of the sea in 13:1; it does not interpret itself within its own verse; it is explained by OTHER Scripture; it is a SYMBOL; and it is the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which is the "spirit of prophecy"(19:10) and therefore is the "WORDS OF SPIRIT" of Jesus (John 6:63) for which we also need a SECOND WITNESS, etc., etc., etc.

-----------------------------------------------------

Rev 12:7  And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,

So as these symbols in Revelation represent something else, 'heaven' is a spiritual realm, not a place. This "war" is fulfilled in the life of all believers down through the generations starting at the apostles till now. So the 'war in heaven' being spoken of in verse 7 is the same 'war' that we read in other Scriptures.

Rom 7:23  I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

1Peter 2:11  Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

Eph 6:11-13  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high (heavenly) places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

We can see in Rev. 8 that "they" (Satan and his angels) will not prevail against the Elect.

Rev 12:8  but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.

1John 4:4  You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Rev 12:9  So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth (world/church), and his angels were cast out with him.

So by the indwelling of the spirit of Christ the Elect can and do overcome Satan & his angels!

1 John 5:4-5  For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Rev 12:10  Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down
v. 11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

mercy, peace and love

My mind is all over the place, as usual. Just listened to/ read the transcript of Ray's audio explaining what the kingdom of heaven is. There, he mentions that "heaven" should never be singular (correct me if I'm wrong). I looked up the Greek word for heaven, ouranos (Uranus hehe) and did a search in the forum for heaven looking for more info. I can understand the above email to a point. The war being symbolic for the war we all must go through in life against the flesh. I have a question though, when the devil is cast out, he is cast onto the earth (world). What does that mean?

Rev 12:9  So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth (world), and his angels were cast out with him.

Cypress:
Does this mean earth as in the rest of humanity?
