SHOULD WE SUPPORT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT?
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:59:40 PM »

HELLO RAY,

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

SINCE BELIEVERS OUGHT NOT TO REJOICE IN THE DEATH OF THE WICKED THEN WE OUGHT NOT TO SUPPORT "CAPITAL PUNISHMENT" AS ORDAINED BY GOD.  ROMAN 13:1 SAYS " LET EVERY SOUL BE SUBJECT UNTO THE HIGHER POWERS.  FOR THERE IS NO POWER BUT OF GOD: THE POWERS THAT BE ARE ORDAINED OF GOD".  IF GOVERNMENTS ARE ORDAINED OF GOD TO EXECUTE JUDGEMENT UPON THE WICKED AS IT RELATES TO FOR EXAMPLE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT THEN OUGHT NOT BELIEVERS SUPPORT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT?  I'M A BIT CONFUSED.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.
GODSPEED,
EDDIE

Dear Eddie:

Can you not see that you are mixing apples and oranges?
Is there not a difference between "rejoice" and "support?"
Can we no "support" something without "rejoicing" in it?

When my children were young and they misbehaved, I
punished them, but I assure you that I did not "rejoice" in
punishing them, but I certainly did "support" such actions.

God ordained capital punishment under Moses, but did
He "rejoice" in the carrying out of that commandment?

I don't see how or why you should be "confused" about it?

God be with you,

Ray
