I am ashamed to admit that I am guilty of harboring that view of God in my younger days.
The whole idea of get, get, get, and prosperity, and blessings, are so prevalent in the world today it has become a big old snare of the devil to deceive those that are new to the Faith.
And the sad thing is, a lot of the older generation are guilty of keeping that view of what God is, going now for years, and are raking in a lot of dough from continuing that deception to the sheep. And as Ray points out tithing is the way it is perpetrated year after year, and causes one to feel guilty if they don't follow that rule.
You seldom if ever hear the prosperity preachers talk about how that most if not all the people of God recorded in the Bible, had to suffer in some way shape or form and were to be the SERVANTS of the most high God. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ was the best example ever of the suffering servant.
I must admit that God has blessed me in much that I have put my hands to do, but I know now that is not the main purpose and the over all big picture he wants us to see in our walk with him.
