Jonah and Nineveh
« on: September 28, 2011, 04:35:05 PM »

It wasn't until I read Ray's article debunking the existence of hell and GOD'S "eternal torment" of His Children that Jonah and Nineveh occurred  to me.
God's command was to Jonah was go to Nineveh and tell the people to repent or God will "overthrow the city"  Jonah 3:4
With millions of souls on their way to hell, why would the welfare of the city be in question?
Couldn't you imagine Billy Graham filling Yankee Stadium and preaching--then saying REPENT or New york City with all it's people, businesses, cultural icons and transit system will be destroyed?
Jonah didn't seem too concerned about millions of people's souls or eternal destination.
Just an observation.   Duane

I dont think Jonah was any different from the preachers of this present age Cristiandom. Looks like he was eager to see the destruction of the 'non-beleivers' who wish for the billions of humans to be boiled in the so called 'hell' for ages.

See his reaction when the people repent : "But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry...Then Jonah went out from the city and sat east of it...until he could see what would happen in the city."(Jonah 4:1,5)

Yes on this note Iwould agree with you.

Why did God not command Jonah preach the repentance for the salvation of their souls rather than the preservation of the city?  Isn't
"salvation from Hell" of utmost importance?  Apparently not or God would have altered his command of Jonah.
Of course the answer is obvious to B-T members, that being, that God planned to save Ninevehs' population at another time and that there is no such place as hell--being a place of eternal torment-- because there is no "eternal' either! (no wonder we B-Ter's give Babylon fits!)
