Image and Likeness
« on: September 24, 2012, 07:31:54 PM »

Just wondering why there is this word difference. Maybe small and unimportant, but I would like to read some thoughts. Thanks
Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
Gen 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 5:1  This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:2  Male and female created he them;

Hi micah7:9,

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth.
v. 27  And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female.

The way I understand those words is that of all the creatures mankind is the only one that God formed to be "like" Him, natural/physically first, then later on spiritually.

1Cor 15:46  But not the spiritual first, but the natural; afterward the spiritual.

Now we know there are other animals that have some similarity in form to man like the chimpanzees and other ape type animals, but the Scripture says that God created man as a different species, animals are much lesser than humans and always have been and that line cannot be crossed. Scientist want to say man evolved from animal, but that Scripture states that is not so. We can see that God created different species only after there own "kind," that is the natural that comes first.

Gen 1:24  And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creepers, and its beasts of the earth after its kind; and it was so.
v. 25  And God made the beasts of the earth after its kind, and cattle after their kind, and all creepers upon the earth after their kind. And God saw that it was good.

So mankind is the only creature that God made to be "Like" him in shape and form, but much more than that is man was made to have a relationship with God that none of the animals can ever have. This is the spiritual that comes later, only for man.

mercy, peace and love

True and excepted, I was wondering about the likeness and image of 26 and image of 27 and then in Gen. 5 it just likeness and no image. That was my wonder, like I said probably just me, as usual. Thanks.

If as it is stated that Adam meaning mankind is created in the image of God then as Ray said it is in reading all the words....is it not completeness as male and female?..Adam was both till Eve is taken out of him and he then called her bone of his bone etcetera?..the SPIRITUAL image IS BOTH? Jesus said that if they had seen Him then they had seen the Father so surely then Jesus is the image that is God and He is the pattern son (both spiritually male and female characteristics?)....He did not back down or get browbeaten by the theologists (male ...a man of war...strength, able to stand against every enemy) but was just as capable of touching lepers and weeping A MAN OF SORROWS (female nuturing healing loving feeding... a mother hen wanting to be gathering her chicks)...the milk of the word etcetera. Complete in one harmonious spirit that is both male and female just like our Father who gives life to all...?

1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, AND it doth not yet appear what we shall be ( it doesn’t YET appear yet, YET it SHALL be made manifest, when…..when HE shall appear…) : but we know that, when he shall appear, (when he SHALL appear) we shall be like him;( we shall be like HIM not before or after He appears but WHEN He appears we SHALL be like HIM) for we shall see him as he is. ( Not as He was or at any future date could be, but as He IS…we shall be LIKE THAT…like that,  am THAT I am. Heb_7:3  Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; )... ALL shall be saved ~ :)

1John 3:2  Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

So we are the kingdom of God. Christ is going to return with a kingdom. What does He return with?  What is the symbolism of how Christ returns? He returns on, what is He riding? A white horse. Is anybody with Him? An army. Are they walking? They are riding on white horses too.

Rev 19:14  And the armies in Heaven followed Him on white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

What is that army? The kingdom of God... IT'S US! We are coming with Him, He is going to gather US up. Gather up what? His army, His kingdom!
