No idea Rex. Our lives should be our testimony to those around us.

--- Quote from: Rex8 on February 09, 2013, 08:00:15 PM ---Where did this personal "testimony" thing even start. It is not in the scriptures that way at all.It is more akin to testifying in a court of law as a witness.

The traditions of men are many and deeply ingrained. This one is specifically designed to tug at the heartstrings of sentimentalism and nostalgia..it reminds me of and old Cheech and Chong skit... it was Cheech so hear his voice..
"I used to be all messed up on drugs ...now I'm all messed up on the lord!!

--- End quote ---

I think Full Gospel was a powerful engine in popularizing this. It was well supported ministry worldwide

okay.... I have been out of the babylon church for so long it seems like a bad dream that I get confused with real life. The first time I was asked to "give" my testimony( I was 25 and WAY  unchurched)I had no idea what they meant...and I had no idea of church etiquette....I think that's why they stopped asking me questions they didn't want to hear  answers to. ..hey ....somethings NEVER change!!

funny, having the same thoughts re testimonies of good tidings , then the Lord shows me this  ERV

1Ti 6:5  They are always making trouble, because they are people whose thinking has been confused. They have lost their understanding of the truth. They think that devotion to God is a way to get rich.

1Ti 6:5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

well there is drama and there is high drama.  Then there is glorying this world.  Once in a while  I have found God has led someone to me and my story does help once in a great while I am older too!  but mostly what comes out of me "Christ with in me the hope and glory" is much more effective in life changing witnesses.  walking in the Love of God.  what has the Church become? is this a reflection of the evil in our country?
