The Comfort of Mindless Obedience

[Dennis Vogel]

This article is about history and propaganda art around the world but the title fits religion really well.

Great title: "The Comfort of Mindless Obedience"

Thanks Dennis - I enjoyed
Brings to mind the quote from Voltaire - "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize."
If spirituality was left to the church - we would still be in the dark ages

In my opinion, the title fits politics as well... just comparing what is always promised and never delivered here in Italy.

And today there is this continuing modern day propaganda that influences millions.
A recent book by Ben Shapiro entitled Primetime Propaganda reveals how modern day media pervades and influences the masses. I saw him interviwed recently on TV. I once thought that some media truth existed on TV stations but I no longer believe that. I have become cynical of most Media talk show hosts.
My opinion for what its worth.

[Edited by Dennis Vogel] We have rules about discussing politics on this forum. I do not want this thread to degenerate. No politics please.

There is none righteous...no, not one.

Thanks Dennis. Got it.

I'm not sure if the following is considered religious propaganda, based on the definition of the word, but it is an example of false imagery that has strongly influenced Christendom for five centuries. Apparently, the painter who painted this portrait of "Jesus" used Cesare Borgia as the model. Cesare was the son of Pope Alexander VI and lived in the late 1400's.

This image has become a religious icon in Christendom and has spawned many other similar looking Jesus paintings. If you ask the average Christian who this painting depicts, they will unequivocally reply, "Jesus" - not, "an artists' depiction of Jesus" or most accurately "the polar opposite of what Christ actually looked like based on the prophetic description from the book of Isaiah."

Imagine the famous picture above, representing, possibly, the most handsome man who has ever lived, hanging on the wall with the following passage underneath it: "He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not." (Isa. 53:2b,3)

[gregorydc]

Rhys, did something happen to Scottie?  Spok only beamed you up if something bad happened to Scottie. I hope he is alright. Lol

[onelovedread]

By the way, you do know that JC was a dreadlocked man.
But no form no comliness and most def, no respect. Hahaha

[se7en]

Hahahahaha Rhys!!!!!!! Your cracking me up!!! Buddy Jesus picture!!!

Leave it to us to go from this study of art in society and the lies thereof and relate it to the christian church...

Then...

BUDDY JESUS.

Hahahahaha Love it

And yes, I do see a very uncanny likeness to CPT Picard and Rhys!!!  Eeeeeerie!!!!  And Scottie was in sick bay recovering from a recent explosion that occured on the space cruise liner Phloston Paradise. So Spock indeed took over in the transporter room.

[Nathan]

Guys,

That wasn't an attempt at humor on my part. Rhys, I sincerely apologize for exposing your true identity, but trading in your red-and-black-spandex-celestial-space-suit for the earthy-green-and-black-terrestrial-suit you now wear, was a dead give away. If I would have known that you had moved to New Zealand to live out your days in peace under the pseudonym Rhys, I would never have outed you.

Again, my apologies.

[Rhys 🕊]

Haha all good. I try to keep things on the quiet these day. But when I can you will always find me at Star Trek conventions wearing so much spandex it would make anyone pass out.

And was Scottie most of the time. I'm sure Spock did sometimes.........anyway I just like the name Spock.

This video should put everything into perspective:

Some time ago already, I watched the documentary ''The century of the self'' by Adam Curtis. And it was very helpful to understand

this propaganda-stuff.
