Why did Jesus calm the storm ?

Nobody like trite answers Loretta when we are going through hard times. There can be peace in the midst of the storm. Where we surrender to the Lord's will. It is in these times that God chooses to change us the most, so please don't lose sight of what he wants to teach you, otherwise we go through it for nothing. Plus, it makes it easier to walk on when it's calm....You can get through this. I know it.

God bless. I just prayed for strength for you and revelation.

Tks Alex, Dean and Rene, for reminding me of this great spiritual truth. I'd read through the lof series once before, but this was my aha moment!

Yes, Ian, the old life does come creeping back in the form of 'waves' and I believe that is exactly what is happening to me right now.

Thank you Greg for your prayers and words of encouragement.  Indeed there is peace when we surrender to His will. Or is it visa-versa ?

Just had my wisdom tooth extracted, necessitated by a troublesome abscess and a locked jaw.

'Master, the tempest rages!'  8)

Thank God for a Savior and for bibletruths.

Loretta:

I am thinking of another verse that is a spiritual match for those verses you quoted. Paul wrote, "I have learned to be content in all things" (Philippians 4:11). These verses are extremely challenging for me. I grew up in a very ridged, very "things are gonna be done THIS way" type of environment, and that thinking carried over into adulthood. Now I am also faced with numerous health challenges, and the Lord is impressing this upon me like no other time. This is all very humbling, but that is what He is achieving in all of us. (Ephesians 2:10)

I just learned of the death of one of my former co-workers, from stomach cancer at the age of 66. He wasn't a believer, but he was the most naturally humorous person I have ever met. He was a big man, 6' 4" and 230 pounds of strength, and yet in less than one year from diagnosis, he was gone. Our lives are a vapor, and all of OUR trials are compared to momentary light affliction (2 Corinthians 4:17). Try to remember to be of good cheer, as will I (Mark 6:50).

Blessings.  Dean

Learning to be content in the face of health challenges, is tough.  I know this one too.  Not the stuff you will hear in churches today, but it's the truth.

But I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Tks Dean, for reminding me to be of good cheer. :)
