Did we as a people really have to wait until 1492 for Christopher Columbus to inform us that the earth is round ?

Here is some data to demonstrate that normal scientist knew the earth was spherical before the time of Jesus. Of course the Roman Church did not agree and they had the power...


In Egypt, a Greek scholar and philosopher, Eratosthenes (276 BC – 195 BC), measured the circle of the earth. Here is a web site that explains and shows diagrams of his research and explains how he determined the circumference quite close to the actual measurement.

Columbus already knew the earth was spherical.  That's why he headed west trying to reach Asia.  What he didn't know was how big Asia was.  Or rather, how small.

Besides, there is also 'round' or 'circular' like a pizza.  If there is a way for the human mind to misunderstand scripture, somebody will find it.

The way I see it human beings made in the image of God are very intelligent, and inventive, and there have been many giants physically as well as mentally.
We can see that by the impressive buildings still around today that are a puzzle to some of the best minds living at this time.
Maybe they could even teach us a few things in many areas of the modern world.
For sure there are those that have not been so smart all throughout the history of our planet.
However carnal earthly wisdom doesn't measure up to the wisdom given of God, Solomon is a prime example of that reality many years ago.
