Largeli, I had a similar 'aversion' (for lack of a better word) to the idea of 'ruling' and 'judging' until I saw in scripture the attitude of heart that made a good 'judge'. Among other passages, this one has struck me hard:
Mar 9:33 And they came to Capernaum. And having come into the house, He questioned them, What were you disputing to yourselves in the way?
Mar 9:34 And they were silent, for they argued with one another in the way as to who was greater.
Mar 9:35 And sitting, He called the Twelve and said to them, If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.
Mar 9:36 And taking a child, He set it in their midst, and having embraced it, He said to them,
Mar 9:37 Whoever receives one of such children on My name receives Me. And whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but the One having sent Me.
In the same way that Christ Humbled Himself in order to be exalted, we are to humble ourselves. I don't see that humility going away in the Kingdom.
Why not?
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Gal 5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
What is the contrast? Those who follow the evils of Galatians 5:19-21 shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. Those full of the fruit of His Spirit and who live and walk in It, who have crucified the flesh with the evils recounted in 5:19-21 and who are not desirous of vain-glory, provocation, and envy are candidates for the positions.
This isn't the way the world works, nor is it the way much of the Church (that most worldly of institutions) works. "Desiring" the Kingdom is not the same as desiring worldly power, and even more importantly, it isn't 'achieved' with the same means or with the same motivation.
In serving God to bring about the salvation of the whole world, I'm reminded too that forgiveness is the beginning of Salvation. The Lake of Fire is in the Presence of the Lamb. Let everyone who is hungry and thirsty come.
