My mother.
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:35:36 AM »

We've spent much of the last few days dealing with a sickness in my mother.  We thought she was getting better, but Wednesday night, she went by ambulance to the hospital, thinking she might be on the verge of a stroke.  After tests, they think she might have a meningioma (cancer of the lining of the brain--usually non-malignant).  There will be more tests tomorrow (Thursday).

She's 81, but nobody would guess it.  I have a hard time keeping up with her sometimes.

God is with you Dave and we are here for you. I will keep your mother in mind in prayer.

God bless brother. Let us know if anything changes.

Thanks.  They have ruled out meningioma.  The don't yet know what is wrong.  Unless they find whatever is in there is some sort of infection, they are ready to send her home and run additional tests later to see if there are any changes in whatever is in her head and in her symptoms.  For the most part, she feels fine.

sorry to hear of you family's time of concern and unanswered questions about your mom.  there is truly no one more precious than mother.  when my momma was in the hospital this summer, she developed a urinary tract infection which got into her bloodstream and affected her brain.  antibiotics helped clear the uti (which in her case was caused by a catheter), and she improved somewhat.  i imagine your mom's condition is not the same as my momma's was.  my momma was 88 and had arterial circulation problems and congestive heart failure.

i pray that God will show mercy and comfort to your mom, you, and your family.  times like you all are experiencing can be trying on the heart and mind.  but you have the very Best Comforter within you Who will help you through.  guaranteed.

stand strong in the faith you have been given.

Just wanted to catch up any interested.  Mom's second MRI showed no change in the mass in her head.  This is good news, at least at present, and actually makes the disconnect between her symptoms and what they 'found' make some sense.  She has decided not to have a biopsy, and of course, no surgery or other treatment.  She's seeing her chiropractor for the symptoms she originally complained of, and that is doing her a lot of good.

It's possible, given everything we've found out and her last results, that the mass in her head has been there for some time--possibly even a long time.  She doesn't want to risk tests or treatments which have the possibility of degrading her life, and she is at peace with whatever happens.

That's about as short an explanation I can give after all the rigmarole we've gone through with the various doctors and specialists.  Thanks for your concern and prayers.

Claudia, she has a more active social life than I do.  When we go out, we're often mistaken for husband and wife rather than son and mother.  She's slowing down some, but 'feeble' is definitely not a word I'd use to describe her.   ;D  Everybody is on the receiving end of 'bad news' eventually, but so far, so good.  She may out-live me yet.
