Hi all,

What do you think, is it possible to backslide in such a way, when there is no way back to God?

Hi Gyula,
Maybe there is a way to backslide too far, but since God pays attention to those who have been called then God knows that you are sliding and knows quite well how to get your attention to bring you back in line. God's will cannot be defied by anyone!
Why would a loving God allow us to go back too far? Wouldn't that be weakness on the part of a loving God?
To us it may seem that we have gone too far away, but to God it may be necessary for us to think that way in order to convict us of our dire need to seek Him...the way HE knew that we would when the pain became too harsh to endure.
Some folks think that they are pretty tough and their ego won't allow them to ask for help. They just endure the pain and wait for relief EVENTUALLY. That is not smart and not helpful for developing a sincere friendship with our Lord Jesus.
So first God has to break us to saddle and to the uncomfortable bit in our jaws.
= = =
Once we are comfortable being guided and Jesus is in the saddle and holding the reigns in His capable hands we two can act as a team of mount and rider and accomplish great things together. Without a skillful rider to guide us we are just a mule in the barn.
 :)

What is "back-sliding"?  Don't let the old preachers define that for you.

Regardless, this may help.

Thank you for your answers!

Dave, for me it was watching pornography 3 days in a row, and I regretted it every day, asked God for forgiveness and still watched for some time in the next day...and I am feeling worse and worse day by day. I've read the Biblestudy you linked now and a couple of weeks earlier also.  I don't know if i practised this sin now, or could I stop with it tomorrow..

I don't know either.  None of us really do.  We're all tested frequently if not incessantly.  If it isn't this, it will be that.  The Righteous man falls 7 times, and gets back up.  He lives by faith.  Victory is assured.  Not even death can separate us from the Love of God.  Since victory is assured, do like Bob said and cooperate.  That's a pretty good definition of faith.

The lust of the flesh is a powerful and terrible  thing God will work it out in his time.

I remember my granddad at the age of 80 after smoking all his life told me one day he quite, I ask how'd you do  it, he said I just through them down, if you don't go to them they can't come to you he said he lived 3 more yrs. never smoked again.

once when in my 30's I was addicted to cocaine for like 3 yrs I almost lost everything, I knew I had to do something or I would lose my wife, kids, home, everything, the craving for it was insane especially on Friday afternoon, so one Friday afternoon I took a small bible and headed to the mountains found me a place to sit and read the bible a little and just watched nature, squirrels, deer, turkeys what ever, I knew I was so weak that I had to give up my friends who used it I couldn't be around it just to weak.

Its been so long now i don't remember how long it took but I stuck with it and each week it got easier never went back thank God.

Been down the porn road too, porn is like cancer it will eat you alive it will take you places you don't won't to go, I thank God he took my desire away, I was going to take that part out but that wouldn't be really true, I should say God gave me strength to over come my desire to watch porn and it didn't happen over night, i'm 64 and if I could just say to anyone do what ever you can from letting your eyes see porn, I haven't watch porn in years but what I did watch still burns in my flesh its something satan will use against you longer than you will want.

I had to go to the mountains, stay away from old friends and find new ones and with the help from God I made it through, you might want to get all excess to porn out of reach, the flesh is weak, the farther and longer you can stay away from porn the stronger the spirit will get, I know what you are going through and I say these things to you in Love

To me, in all these addictions, the heart of the matter is the 'Truth' of the thing.

We must stop making excuses and pretending it will go away by itself.

For example, with pornography, we all need to ask ourselves, is it right and would Our Heavenly Father approve?

That is the hardest question, and the heart ('Truth') of the matter.

Until we all address the question and agree to the 'Truth', we are stuck in our addiction(s).

Once we see the 'Truth', we can confirm this to Our Heavenly Father and ask Him to forgive us and enable us to be completely free from our addiction(s) - but remember, He looks at our heart's desire - and we must really mean that we no longer desire to do these things - or we must ask Him to completely take these desires away from our hearts.

Kind Regards.

Thank you for your answers, advices and your testimony, Terry!

To tell the truth, I still hate myself much more than porn for example, when I fall back. I know Ray wrote that we should hate the sin only then can it be removed from us, in God's time.

1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Ray said this walk is the hardest thing we will ever do, if its not hard we are doing something wrong, while some aren't having the same battle you( me) are having believe me they have their battles.

I always hated my self for being to weak to resist evil but God uses our weakness that we will in time hate our sin and cry out to him, remember this is an age to learn good and evil, you say you hate yourself more than porn I think you got that turned around, as bad as sin is I think God allows it to get us to a place that we realize we can't make it with out God,

I know its hard, do all you can to resist evil and God will see you through

Those verses are great encouragement, thanks for sharing, Terry!

Yeah, I completely agree that I should hate the sin more then myself. Well, I shouldn't hate myself at all : Mark 12:30-31 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

"And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it: and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them (Revelation 9:6).

"...I die daily" (1 Corinthians 15:31).

Perhaps God is using these verses to let us know of how this is such a slow, and daily, process, not only for ourselves, but for everyone who is going to be "cast into the lake of fire"?

Hello pg-91

My understanding is that God is sovereign , do you think backsliding nullifies Gods intention ? I believe whatever we experience is always Gods intention specifically designed for our lives.

Phonograph is a sin just like any other sin, it's good to remember lust knows no end and is never satisfied but the thing to understand is that only our creator can teach us righteousness and make us in His image.

I too like any other human being do things that in themselves tell me I'm not saved by any means and if anyone of us are to be saved in this aged it will take Divine intervention by our God .

Believe me when I tell you that no one on this site or in the world has the ability to save themselves. We should be trusting in our creator and in His Council for our lives.

Everyone here hopes to be saved in this age and rightfully so and who in their right mind would not want to be ? I personally don't want to do this human experience again in the next age but how would one feel if Gods intention says you are not save in this aged ? How would you feel ?

I know for a fact that all of Gods creation is subjected to hope , not the earthly hope we all know , you maybe hope for a new car but never got it or perhaps a house but didn't get that either or maybe wanted to date your favorite human being but that didn't happen either.

This hope that God has given us is real hope a hope that will manifest itself in reality. The bottom line is its what God wants and God knows what He's doing. Ray said the way to get every prayer answerd is to always end your prayer saying let your will be done.

And that is a good attitude to have in this life which is simply say to God when it comes to my life let your will be done .

God bless all .

Hi Gyula,
I'll just add one more thought to all the great advice I've read in this topic.
What has been of great help to me is remembering the words of our Lord; " If your right eye offends you, pluck it out" . What this has done for me in my struggles with the flesh is helped me to dip it in the bud. In other words just as soon an inappropriate thought enters your mind pluck it out fast, think of something else such as work, anything,  just don't entertain the thought.
James 1: " 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
If you stop it before it takes hold you'll receive a little help from above. I receive my greatest strength by practicing this.
As long as you're alive you never give up. Pray Pray Pray. God's Grace
