Birthday
indianabob:
Sorry to learn about your husband's long wait for surgery.
Our family doctor age 78 just retired in March and our new replacement is doctor Dr. Muhammad Ul Haq, MD. He is in the office two days per week.
=
Haven't met him yet as my wife is still seeing the surgeon who operated on her brain in February.

Our problems with medicine are mostly concerning the covid flu thing and with a scarcity of family doctors. We have lots of specialist and they are available fairly soon even for folks who live in the rural areas if one can drive 50 to 100 miles for service.
=
In my own case as a veteran of the Korean conflict the wait time is usually 30 to 60 days to see a physician. We do have an urgent care center for walk-in patients that is staffed by nurses and a hospital emergency room with a US $500.00 copay.

In Nova Scotia with a population of about a million, 14,000 without a family physician seems normal, considering that the doctor needs a steady income provided by full volume of paying patients. About 1,000 per doctor. I don't know the reason why the wait time is so long for surgery other than there is a high demand and the doctors have only a three day work week. Doctors here expect to earn $500,000. a year after being established for ten years.

I'm on Medicare supplement and my knee replacement in 2009 cost $25,000.00 of which I paid $800.00. I haven't had any difficulties yet with the artificial knee.
Love to discuss this further while being careful to stay non political.
How is your surgery paid for in Nova Scotia?

Canada has Universal Healthcare and for many years it was very good, then privatization
of our healthcare system began and it was downhill from there.
People who need urgent surgery and can afford it , go to other countries, like the US etc.
You can read about our Healthcare in Canada in Wikipedia.
Our healthcare system reflects this present evil we are living in. Long excruciating waits in emergencies,
some people die waiting for ambulances. Some don’t even show up . One man with a broken hip
lay in his driveway for three hours. It’s pretty bad here, not just in NS but all Canada.
I told you 14000 were waiting for doctors but I checked it again and it’s 14.4 % , about 139.000
people without a doctor. 81.000 on a waiting list. I need to pay attention to the words,, and numbers.
😁
We have walk in clinics also but people have to wait 6 to 12 hours sometimes, so they leave.
And now we are told to get another Covid shot because it’s surging again.
I know this is all part of the plan of God and I am greatly grateful to know this, however
it is heartbreaking to see the suffering of others. Nevertheless we must pray for God’s will be done.
Thank God we have a spiritual healer who will eventually heal all.
God Bless You
indianabob:
Thanks for the further explanation of the number without a physician.
Even here, health care staff are getting fed up with the lack of appreciation for their sacrifice.
We hear stories in the local news and by word of mouth in the coffee shops where we idle away our
retirement years.

Doctors don't like to hurry through a visit, but are compelled to do so because of all the insurance regulations and the reductions in payments that insurance requires, especially for the less fortunate who actually do not have the money to pay the current cost of interview and treatment.
One additional thought, that families seem to have lost their ability to care for themselves and their children. Even in these days of general availability of good information through the internet.
My wife and I reared four children and seldom consulted a doctor for colds, flu, croup, measles etc. these all were treated at home. There apparently is something else going on in society.

Happy Birthday Indianabob!
indianabob:
Well thank you friend,
At 87 my decades of experience are available to one and all.
Of course it must be mentioned that I have a slight bias, but am willing to recognize better information if it is presented.
Keep smiling...life in this "eon" is too short to worry. ;)
Que sera, sera.
