Signs from God

Doug:
Thanks Bob for the book reference, that helps in knowing what he is basing his information on. I’ve talked to him for years and tried to reason with him to no avail. We may have to drop this and talk on things that there is more agreement.

Thank you Porter that was very helpful. I may just ask him to read the responses. Your last paragraph is very profound and something I had concluded some time ago. However you expresses it in a way I could never have written. These comments have been helpful to me and much appreciated.

ralph:
Hi Doug.

This is a good one to share with your friend:

Matthew 12:39-41

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

Doug:
Thanks Ralph for the suggested verse… I did use however it fell on deaf ears. Unfortunately after years of being friends decided needed to part ways. It goes well beyond believing in signs, more came out in our discussions.

indianabob:
Friend Doug,

It is a sad thing to lose a long time friend.
So is it necessary in order to honor God and the faith that He has bestowed upon us?
I think not.
If God wanted you to bring your friend into belief it would happen eventually or gradually.
The solution to your dilemma may be to limit your discussions to sports or hobbies of common interest.

Please consider the advice of apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians.
Regards, Indiana Bob

“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—not at all meaning the people of this world … In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral …
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. ”
1 Corinthians 5:9-13

“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:5-6

Doug:
Hi Bob… I very much respect your wisdom and advise. In most situations I would totally agree. I want to be careful as to the reason for my decision. It came down to something bad happened to a person that had tried to discuss some of his beliefs and how he saw himself in Gods plan. He felt this was Gods judgement on that person. He “warned” me to be careful in my responses to him. Anyway left it as no anger towards him but just could not continue with a friendship.
