Hi all--------
I truly believe that God loves a gracious giver and I believe that if we feel led to give back to God for the blessing we recieve that the best way to do it is to help out someone in need.I am pretty sure that the rest of the world is not that different from my home town. There are plenty of folks out there who are hungry, may be ill,or just need a little help.A good church would recognise these folks and help out.Just because the majority of folks on this forum don't belong to a "church" per say doesn't mean we can't still show them folks a little love.
As for the prosperity gospel woe unto those folks who try to make merchandise of God.

That is exactly how I feel. I won't give a penny to the churches of men who will misuse it. Better to give it to those who need food or clothing or heat or any of the other millions of things I tend to take for granted way too often. There are so many in need of basic necessities.
"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness [a] will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:6-8
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:34-40
A while ago I used to give to churches and feel bad if I didn't. I thought about these verses a lot....and about what they used the money for. It made me sad. I came to the conclusion that one way we can show our love for God, is to let Him use us to love and bless others. Nothing is more beautiful than to be used by God this way. Everything I have, even the clothes on my back, are all His, given to me for awhile. He is so generous and I am so thankful when He puts an opportunity to be used by Him to share His generous loving care with others.

I called in to the Day Star "Marathon Fund raising Telethon" last week and pledged 150 thousand dollars, but I explained to the women that took my call that I needed to talk to Marcus Lamb in person over the phone. She was exstatic as she put me on hold. After around 30 sec. she was back on line and said Mr Lamb would not talk to me live over the air, but would call me on my home or cell phone. After 20 - 30 sec. of more religious political banter, she asked again for the amount of my pledge, and I saidn 150 pennies, pre-wrapped for convinence, there was 15 - 20 sec of DEAD silence. She said sir, I thought you said 150 thousand dollars. I replied, Im sorry, I gave that to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. More DEAD silence. I was placed by on hold, this hold was eternal. I know what I did was wrong, but why did I feel so good about it. I guess old Longhorn has some maturing to do.
