Prayer Request
« on: September 18, 2006, 06:01:16 PM »

Hello Group,

I am asking that y'all remember me in your prayers, as I am undergoing surgery on my shoulder(Torn rotator cuff) on Sept 29th. It was an on-duty injury(Thank God!), and I always am leary of surgeries, always thinking of what COULD go wrong. I hope to be back to work after 3 months should the operation go smoothly.

Thank you all and God bless

DJ,
I read up on rotator cuff surgeries awhile back (I have a shoulder injury which, unfortunately, can't be fixed).  They seem to have a very high success rate.  Hope this goes well for you.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks, Mongoose. I think I have a pretty good surgeon who's done this procedure countless times. I am just a little concerned, as I really need my shoulder to be as close to 100% as possible if I'm to work on the street again, and I'm way too young to go out on disabilty. But thanks to you and all the others who are praying for me for a successful and speedy recovery. I do believe that God's will will be done.

Hello deejcop,

I had to have emergency knee surgery as a 27 year old after a grinder (I was working on a boiler plate) cut into my knee, the initial treatment (doctor's office) did not work too well and after a few weeks the knee swelled up to about 3 times its normal size, I went to a specialist and the Orthapedic Surgeon discovered a raging staff infection. Anyway, to make a long story short he got me into surgery that afternoon, had to take the kneecap off, dig around the "mother of pearl," tendons and stuff removing tiny metal fragments and thoroughly washing all the parts of with an antibiotic solution.

The feeling I had before I was being prepped for surgery was of pure dread and terror, my imagination running wild with all the possibilities a paranoid, fearful mind can muster. Then came the pre anesthesia "cocktail," worries over, hand me the knife, let's get this ball rolling attitude replaced the nervous, paraniod state of mind. Then the real anesthesia was administered, she told me to count backwards from 10, I think I made it to 7 and "lights out."

Next thing I know I am waking up in my room with my family around me, it was over, I counted my legs and feet saw that the count was right and asked my nurse when could I get a bite to eat. I ended up having to stay in the hospital a week so they could give me intravenous antibiotics 24/7 until the Doctor felt the Staff infection was under control. I was on crutches for 3 or 4 weeks but in hindsight it was not a bad experience, the pain was gone and my knee has been fine ever since. Once you get "prepped" for surgery it is pretty much a done deal, the next thing know you will be waking up in your room, with smiling friendly faces around you.

Here are some FAQ's on rotator cuff surgery, (I checked it out first to make sure there were no horror stories). Hey Brother, the prognosis looks great!

Hi there Deejcop

I will pray for you during the surgey and especially post op and when you have to deal with the physical terrorist (forgive the pun).  The PT afterward will be crucial.   Been there did that... my job also depended on a good recovery.  In the meantime enjoy the down time in the Word.

Hi deejcop,

Psa 16:8  I will always look to you, as you stand beside me and protect me from fear.

Isa 41:10  Don't be afraid. I am with you. Don't tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.

He is right there with you, and will take care of you.
Will pray for you during this trial.

mercy, peace, and love

I thank ALL of you for your prayers! And Joe, I checked out that link you gave, and among those 12 clinics listed is the one that my surgeon is affiliated with in Madison! Thank you very much for that.

God bless you all. You all bless me so much. I will keep y'all posted on my recovery.

Hello Group,

Well, I had my surgery and it remains to be seen what the success rate is. Right now, as Beloved mentioned in an earlier post, I am dealing with the physical terrorist, and Lord have mercy, pain is the experience every single time. It's a slow road to recovery, but I'm so glad the Father is blessing me and is with me. Bless you all, and thank you for your prayers.

Man, I missed this one.
Deejcop, I know what you are experiencing. I have had 2 surgeries on my right shoulder (bull riding/motorcycle injuries). I was not able to achieve 100% recovery on my right; maybe 90%. I also need some work on my left shoulder now (standing up in a chair changing a light bulb in the dark [outside] and fell out of the chair/yes, adult beverages clouded my judgement). Now, my left shoulder sometimes comes out of the socket when I'm sleeping; I am able to relocate it, but as you may have experienced, it hurts worse going back in than when it came out.

One piece of advice I can give is, after PT is over, don't stop doing the exercises that the terrorists have you doing now.
May God bless your recovery process.

DJ,

Well Brother, it has been a month into recovery, how is the rotator cuff doing? Are things coming along on schedule? Think you will still have your fastball? Be ready for spring training?

You are in my prayers,

Joe
