early church
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:31:57 PM »

I have been reading various articles about the early church and that they believed in all men being saved.

What I have been looking for is if there is historical evidence showing  the whens or whys, etc of when  Hell took the place of that.

Does anyone know if there is such documentation?  Have I missed an article of Rays on the issue?

I am also waiting for Ray to write a paper on this issue. I sent him couple of e-mail on the issue in his response he asked me to send him quotes from early christians support for eternal punishment. I sent him quote from David Bercot's dictionary of Early Christians. I am still waiting for his response.

Could I ask you to share some of your articles with me? I have read from different sources, some advocating that the early church believed in Eternal Punishment and other that they beleived in restoration of all things (salvation for all). I have read extensively David Bercot (claims to be a scholar in early church), he asserts that some early fathers believe in salvation for all and other in eternal punishment.

Here is a book that has been put into electronic form.

I have not read it all,  but so far has been very interesting.

I started studying this just very recently, so I have a lot to learn.

The tentmaker site has alot of good things there.  But of course I take all in stride and read the scriptures.  It is easy to swap one man made doctrine for another if we are not careful.

Hi Phazel,

Here are 4 articles from Ray that are right near the top of his site;

http://bible-truths.com/kendy2.htm

http://bible-truths.com/kennedy2.htm

http://bible-truths.com/lazarus.html

Most of his other articles at least touch on this subject.

His Peace and Wisdom to you,

Joe

Thanks Phazel, I have read that article on the tentmaker site. I think in a nutshell, it said that men have corrupt all the early church writings to reflect thier view of eternal punishment. How that has been done is not very clear though.
