Jesus Name
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:26:10 AM »

I have just heard a man broadcasting on the internet, Zak Daniel http://mp3.rbnlive.com/Zak06.html saying, I think, that in the first editions of the Bible the name Jesus did not appear.  Perhaps I heard this wrongly?
Do you have any information on this item?
On the linked page you'll see that you can hear the recordings of these broadcasts.  It would have been on the one listed for today which I haven't had a chance to listen to again.

Dear Will:
No, you probably heard it rightly.  In the 1611 they had not yet introduced the "J" into the English alphabet, although contrary to all the "holy sacred name societies" which firmbly believe that one's very salvation rests in the balance of pronouncing the Messiah's name correctly, the "J" sound was always in the Hebrew language even if they didn't have a letter "j" in their alphabet. In the King James 1611 Edition Jesus name is rendered "Iesus."
God be with you,
Ray
