Deborah-Leigh:
When I came to this Forum I came I too....."resolved to know nothing, to be acquained with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing among you except Jesus Christ the Messiah and Him crucified." 1 Cor 2:2

How does this scripture talk to you? What do you understand by it?

....I have since seen the testimonies of some, and felt the real warmth of lessons learnt and shared by the fellowship expressed here. I have been challenged to discern the difference between self agrandisement and the only motive acceptable to God...1 Cor 10:31 ...whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God." I have seen testimony give that glory to God and it falls into line with what Ray advises in his Critique of James Kennedy Letter 2 on the home page wherein Ray states categorically:

quote.....

First, let me state my position succinctly:

1  Whatever we teach must "glorify" God

"Glory to God in the highest..." (Lk 2:14)

"...that in all God may be glorified..." (1Pt 4:11)

2.  Whatever we teach must not detract on iota from Ghrist's sacrifice for all humanity.

....there is one....mediator betwee God and men....Christ Jesus......" unquote

I know that the scriptures do not contradict. I understand that non of us should be sure that we are elect. Even Paul did not take his election for granted. 1 Cor 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."

I feel that I am the first in line here to say I have erred. Forgive me please.

May all glory be to our Lord. I am not the owner of my life and like Paul I should consider everything I have experienced in my life as rubbish except for Christ. This is not to say I feel ungrateful or that I reject Christs blessings that have been given to me throughout my life....on the contrary........! I thank Him and am grateful to Him

Hello Arcturus,

Good post and I also like this verse, it can bring discernment of where our or anothers faith comes from:

(Joh 5:44)  How are you able to believe, you who receive glory from one another, and the glory which is from the only God you do not seek?

I have often thought of this verse, we see this type of religion all around us everyday.  Not only do they pat each other on the back giving each other glory, but they trample on the ones who sincerely are seeking the glory of God.

Amen, all the praise and glory goes to Him.   8)

God bless,

Gary

Deborah-Leigh:
Hello Gary

Thank you and I agrree.  The scripture you present has been surfacing into my thoughts.

My Lord has made me aware of it. It witnesses with this one from Galations too....

Galations 1:10  Now am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ the Messiah.

His special blessings to you Gary

This is an excellent topic to consider, 1Cor2:2.
Here's another verse for a witness:

CEV Phi 3:8
Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have given up everything else and count it all as garbage. All I want is Christ.

We can say we've given up everything in this world and are living for Christ. We can even appear to others to be doing this. But this is just plain vanity to appear unto others. Jesus knows our heart. Plus, Jesus alone put the desire to live for Him in our hearts - so either the desire is there, or it is not. Each sentence of this verse has profound meanings, and returns the glory to its' Rightful Owner.

1. Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
Honestly, for any of us following Christ, is anything better than knowing Him? No. It is a blessing to know Him. And we know Him because He "dragged us (John6:44) to Him. We can only thank Him and give Him glory for the privilege of knowing Him. Now that we know Him, imagine not knowing Him? We'd be lost. This temporary life we're living would just be vanity upon vanity. I wouldn't even want to be here if I didn't know Him.

2. I have given up everything else and count it all as garbage.
For us following Jesus, what else matters? Think of your life before being called to Him. Everything evolved around the only thing you knew you were living for...you. What difference do you see now? Boy, not one thing in this life matters anymore when we have Christ to live for.  When we're living for Him, everything else that needs to happen in our worldly state is taken care of by God. He promised this, and He is faithful to deliver. Wow!

3. All I want is Christ.
Amen. I have had urges in my times only with Him to just reach out and hug Him. I'm talking a giant, bear hug. And only thanks to Him. There's not one thing I've done to earn the blessing of wanting Him in my life. His spirit touches our spirit in such a way that we know we belong to Him. What a thankworthy blessing He's bestowed upon us, His children. To want Him.

All else is vanity.

Love,
Marie
