I think of us becoming a new creation this way:

When a baby is born, he/she is a new creation but far from perfect. The child has a long way to go to become mature.

The same is true for us spiritually. By being born again, we may have become a new creation, but we've got a long way to go toward perfection.

Yes, that was well said. I often wonder if I have graduated preschool yet. I hope so, but I say that with very little confidence.
