Rick,

nah I do not see myself as smart.  There are many things that I do not know about, and I ask what they are.  That to me is the sign of a "smart" person, when they do not know, they ask for directions.  There is no shame in asking what stuff is, the only shame is trying to appear like you know it all when you really do not have a clue.  So, you are smart as I am, as well as the people on the forum, and a good deal of others in the world.

Parenthetical statements are sentences written between parentheses.  Gena had written
(darn couldn't find a burping smiley).  These statements either serve to explain something more in detail, or in forums or in chat rooms to denote a physical emotion or something beside the written word as in when I usually write <starts singing and dancing>.  These can explain moods or do any other functions, usually those of elaboration.  Bracketed statements [NOTE:  usually contain a definition or an explantion or a citation].  These are just attention grabbers that separate text that the writer wishes to put special emphasis on compared to the rest of the text.  Same principle as CAPS do.

Hope this explains, and thanks for asking.  This is my working definition or how I use the word, it may be different in a dictionary or a standard English book.

  Sincerely,

  Anne C. McGuire

Hey Jennie, you will be in my prayers.

Like most people here however, I wish I had your "appetite".  Craving all those healthy foods and dry salads??  My word girl!  That really is unique.

I can't understand why your doctor wants you to gain weight when you eat so healthy.  Is he afraid your low weight is causing other health problems?  From what you say you've been like this all your life and you sound like you're still alive and kicking.  If your weight is stable than maybe you will be okay just the way you are.  I'm no doctor however, but eating 3 cinnabons and a soda for breakfast does not sound like it would be "healthy" on your poor digestive system.

I know there is a huge growing concern for woman who are underweight and it is good that your doctor is concerned about you.
But it does not sound like you have any psychological barriers to eating.  I use to work as a counselor for several years with people who had very severe eating disorders.  Our goal at the clinic was to teach them healthy eating habits (among other things) and to get their weight to where it was reasonable and they were comfortable.

There were times when some had such a high metabolism that they were well from the eating disorder, but were still considered low or underweight by medical standards.  However, we had doctors working with us who were of the mind that if there were no other medical problems and if the women were menstruating, then they had enough of the good type of fat in their bodies to deem them at an acceptable weight.  I'm assuming your body is working fine too since you've had children!

Perhaps you should probe your doctor about what his major concerns are...like is your heart in trouble?  Because if you have nothing else to worry about, perhaps you can just be you, eating what you like and not be anxious over your weight anymore.  God has made us all so uniquely different, and I have found through my experience at the clinic that a number on a scale can really be meaningless when it comes to physical health.  Hope I haven't overstepped in sharing my thoughts with you.
Hope it all works out for you! ;)

God Bless you,
Diana

I am not trying to scare anyone here but I relate this info just as a factual event. I worked with this guy for years who never gained weight but he was a very heavy eater(big macs, fries, soda..........supersize it please) and this went on for years. he was about my height at 6 foot but only weighed about 125 pounds. finally a few years ago his wife convinced him to seek medical advice because she just had a feeling something wasnt right. well..........lo and behold this guy had a worm in his intestine that when they removed it , it was nearly 9 feet long. I know you all are thinking I am making this up, but it is the honest truth. now this same guy weighs about 175 pounds. i know this is strange but it is also true..............rick

Hey Craig you beat me to the punch. I was going to ask where you could get
some of those worms too but I didn't want to appear
too desperate!  he he ;D

I don't know why they don't give people worms instead of bypass surgery. At least
that would be reversible -just could take out the worm or give them some wormicide
to drink when a person gets to their desired weight. Makes sense to me!  ;D

Don't worry about fitting in with the status quo. The media has or has had all of us to varying degrees in fear, insecurity, and self consciousness. This is how they're making merchandise of us. If it's not them telling you that you need viagra or a hair transplant, then they're telling us women we need implants. Well, thank God that He says, I have not given you the spirit of fear (self consciousness, and insecurity); but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

I can't believe you're complaining. Girl, if only you saw me. I'm speaking as far as from a physical perspective. 2 Corinthians 10:7 - Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? Growing up and as a grown up, my parents, peers, and doctors have been saying things to just cut into me. I've got peace within myself now. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 - But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

My husband thinks I'm a pearl, (1 Peter 3:3-4 - Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.), and in Christ I do too. I guess he has a spiritual perspective.  2 Corinthians 10:10

Hopefully there was a bible equivalent of tums and stuff like that.

Well, I know that they ate manna in the wilderness and their feet didn't swell and that Jesus said a man does not live by bread alone (Matthew 4:4). He was on a forty day fast being tempted by the devil probably with some sort of fear, insecurity, and self consciousness. Hebrews 4:15.

IN CHRIST,

Hey Rick,

There's a guy at a flee market not far from where i live. he sells tape worms, and people buy em like crazy for the sole purpose of loosing weight..

rj

Does he sell tape also? May not be a need for it if you eat tape worms. ;D
During my senior year in High School (I weighed only 95 lbs) and my mother was concerned; so the doc suggested checking for tape worms. :o
I did not have tape worms. Very humiliating for a 16 yr old boy. :-[ >:(

I eat bugs (thanks, Dennis); Acidophilus.

I guess if anyone can believe God will torture most of His creation for all eternity, eating a few worms wouldnt be out of the question!!!!

Do tapeworms really make you hungry?

Not usually. In fact, a tapeworm is more likely to make you lose your appetite. That's because the worm can irritate your bowels when it attaches to them with its circular suckers (and, in some cases, its movable hooks). Though the parasite does absorb some of your digested food through its skin, it won't eat enough to make you hungry. (One variety—the "fish tapeworm"—can cause a vitamin B-12 deficiency in some patients.) The worm won't starve you, but irritation of your intestines can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, reduced appetite, and weight loss.

Most patients don't experience any of these symptoms. You probably wouldn't know you had an infection unless you found stray worm segments—called "proglottids"—swimming in your stool. Each proglottid constitutes a self-contained (hermaphroditic) reproductive organ holding up to 100,000 eggs. A tapeworm reproduces by detaching these sections from its tail, so that the eggs can find their way out of your body and into a new host.

Doctors have described several other symptoms that go along with tapeworm infection in rare cases. Some patients develop headaches, convulsions, or skin rashes. Others actually do see an increase in appetite, just like Glen "Big Baby" Davis. Few comprehensive studies of these unusual symptoms have been completed, and parasitologists don't have a good sense of how prevalent these side effects are.

We do know that the eggs of some kinds of parasites—like the "pork tapeworm"—can become implanted inside your body.* This can cause much more serious complications, as the eggs embed themselves in bodily organs and cause cysts in your liver, lungs, or brain.

HUNGRY ANYONE??????????????????

Many years back there was this exchange between a couple of noted deep thinkers when they were discussing what to have for breakfast;

(Curly) "I'll have burnt toast and a rotten egg."

(Moe) "Burnt toast and a rotten egg? Whatta ya want that for?"

(Curly) "I got a tapeworm and that's good enough for him!"

Hey you Guys,

Well I made a BIG mistake to eat my breakfast cereal while reading this thread!  ;D
I think I am going to be sick. I'm feeling kinda nauseas.   Hey RJ I was just kidding
about wanting to have some of them worms! I didn't know that people really bought them to
help them loose weight.Yuk! I'm not THAT desperate!

Hey Rick thanks for the detail facts concerning worms, that's important information that we all need to know! He he ::)
That was a BAD joke concerning your wife's cooking! You better hope she doesn't visit the forum.  :D

Hey Patrick I  knew that acidophilus was a bacteria but I didn't realize that it was considered a bug?
I looked it up and sure enough it is called a friendly bug. I learn something new everyday!  ;)
