Would you let someone physically harm you or your family?

Michele:
 Self-Defense....

I was reading up on some post that someone sent in about self-defence and also one of Rays replies to it...which was of course the "turn the other cheek" thing that Jesus said. I hope and pray that God never allows me to have to make that decision,

Personally I was  sexually abused for years as a child by a person I trusted, so I unfortunately, even though I deeply care for most human plight in the world, I  mostly do not trust people in general and keep to myself as much as possible...and if someone tried to hurt my child...I don't know what I'd do but I know I'd try everything I could to stop them.

But my question here is honestly and truly What would YOU do if a evil person was attacking you? Trying to rape or otherwise harm you, your wife or child?  Trying to kill you or your family?  What would YOU do, honestly?  And if you had to harm another to keep them from harming you or your loved ones, what would God do?  Does God want you to let others hurt you or yours?

Thank you for your honest replies,
Michele

Hi Michelle.

God knows every situation and He knows our motives, our hearts. If preserving a life meant harming another, then I would do it if there was no other way out.

I've always found the following verses interesting, perhaps it has something to do with self defense. Other members here could shed some light on it better:

Luk 22:35 And He said to them, "When I dispatch you minus purse and beggar's bag and sandals, you did not want anything?Yet they say, "Nothing."
Luk 22:36 Yet He said to them, "But now, he who has a purse let him pick it up, likewise a beggar's bag also; and he who has none, let him sell his cloak and buy a sword."
Luk 22:37 For I am saying to you that this which is written must be accomplished in Me: And with the lawless is He reckoned. For that also which concerns Me is having its consummation."
Luk 22:38 Now they say, "Lord, lo! here are two swords. Now He said to them, "It is enough."
Concordant Literal Translation.

I would protect myself and family the best i could, I would try and step between the attacker and my family. If then he shoots me..then what would you have me do?

Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Although these questions are honest enough, No one hear knows what they would do, until faced with such events.

Read all you can on the website, "Exposing those who contradict" Dont worry so much about the things of this world, they will take care of themself.

1Ti 5:8  But if any provide not for his own and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

Hi Michele,

It would be difficult to say what one would do in a hypothetical situation.  I want to believe I would trust God to deliver me or my family, but fortunately I have not been faced with this situation.
But we do have the perfect example for this.

Luk 22:50  And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
v. 51  But Jesus said, "No more of this!" And He touched his ear and healed him.

Mar 14:65  And some began to spit on Him and to cover His face and to strike Him, saying to Him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received Him with blows.

Act 8:32  Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: "Like a sheep He was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opens not His mouth.
v. 33  In His humiliation justice was denied Him. Who can describe His generation? For His life is taken away from the earth."

Isa 53:7  He was oppressed, and He was afflicted; yet He opened not His mouth. He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a sheep before its shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.

There is no scripture that say that Jesus or any of the apostles ever use violence or even self defence to protect themselves.

mercy, peace, and love
