         what exactly is coarse jestering

        Dear Lumas:

Whereas the King James uses the word "jesting" in Eph. 5:4,  the NIV uses the term "coarse joking." The Concordant Version says "insinuendo" an example of which would be a vulgar witty comment by General George Patton who said: "The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other ******* die for his." While this may philosophically ring true to most, it is nonetheless, "coarse joking, jesting, repartee, jocose, witticism, ribaldry [vulgar, lewd humor], etc." The emphasis is not on jocking of jesting, but on coarse or VULGAR jesting, joking, etc, that we are to refrain from.

Don't try to find "insinuendo" in the dictionary.

        God be with you,

        Ray
