Freedom Writers
LittleBear:
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone seen this movie- Freedom Writers?
I just saw it and WOW, what a wonderful movie!
It amazes me what the power of love will do! I don't want to say anything about it, but if you haven't seen it, please see it.
Joe,
The teacher in this movie and what she went through reminds me of what your daughter is going through. I was thinking about your daughter throughout this entire movie. If she hasn't seen it, I would encourage her to do so, as it would be an encouragement to her.

I will check it out.

Hi Ursula--
My husband and I watched the "Freedom Writers" ....I was impressed that this teacher would go to such lengths to reach those lost and hurting kids! A true story too! I thought it was great! Do you know if the woman that helped hide Anne Frank in WWII is STILL alive? I forget how many years its been since the actual events portrayed in this "true story" unfolded. She would have to be near 90 if not over.

Hi Joyce,
I was so impressed by this movie, and as you say, it's a true story.
Yes, the lady who helped the Franks, Miep Gies is still alive. She was born in 1909 which makes her 98 years old now. She lives in Holland. She and her husband Jan helped Anne's family during the war and hid them. She also found and kept Anne Frank's diary after they were discovered by the Nazis.
I loved Anne Frank's Diary as a teenager and read it many times. In my early 20's I went backpacking in Europe and when I was in Amsterdam, I visited the house where Anne and her family were hidden. It is a memorial and museum. It was an amazing, moving experience. I was pretty goosebumpy.

:) Ursula;
I too loved reading Anne Frank's Diary....it was one of my favorite books as a child...going through the experience of watching my own children grow up and read it was just as fulfilling. Please share your pics of Anne's place, if you have any! I would LOVE to hear Miep Gies speak about her experiences! I think the truth of this matter is that, we are being shaped by the hands of God right now...and we know full well that this means time in places of sorrow, pain and great mental stress....more so than places of love, and peace, and joy. So I think that we, as a group, seeking God, we identify with Anne's experiences quite naturally....don't you think?
