Hell
« on: June 03, 2007, 10:21:48 AM »

I will make a few COMMENTS in your email................

Hell appears 54 times in the KJV Bible.

COMMENT:  No, "hell" appears 87 times in the King James Bible--65 in the Old and 23 in the New. And "hell" never means "the grave." There is a Hebrew and Greek word just for "grave," but it is not sheol, hades, or gehenna. One time hades is translate "grave," but it is wrong. It should be translated "the unseen" or just left as "hades," because it is referring to the STATE or REALM of the death, not the grave location.

Of these 54 meantions 12 refers to hell-fire at the end of time

COMMENT:  No, twelve times the word "Gehenna" is erroneously translated "hell," but only three times do we find the phrase "hell fire" in the King James. There is no "end of time."

and 1 refers to a place of darkness, the rest simply means the grave or tomb.

COMMENT:  No, there is no place that "hell" refers to darkness. And there is only one time that "hades"
is translated "grave"  (I Cor. 15:55).

Sinners don't burn in a literal fire for eternity. Nobody is burning in a literal hell right now. They are all asleep in thier tombs. Jesus said the first death is a dreamless sleep(see John 11:11-14).

COMMENT:  Actually the term "dreamless" is not used, but surely when people die they don't dream.

After the first fruits resurrection Peter in Acts 2 says David is still dead and buried in the tomb not having gone to heaven. Daniel was told to sleep in his lot and when he awakes he will understand(Daniel 12).

COMMENT: Actually Daniel was told he will "STAND in thy lot at the end of the days," but close enough.

More to the point why would God punish sinners before the judgment? Hell fire doen't start until after the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ after New Jerusalem has landed on this earth.

COMMENT:  Actually the "lake of fire" (not "hell" fire) starts AT the coming of Jesus Christ (Rev. 19:20).

The soul is not immortal. Nowhere in the Bible does it ever talk about man having an immortal soul. The Bible states that the soul can die and man doesn't receive immortality until the second coming of Jesus. Only God has immortality.

Death is the reversal of creation.

COMMENT:  I would like to see Chapter and Verse on that statement.

And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground(body), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life(spirit or breath); and man became a living soul(a human being). (Genesis 2:7(see Ecclesiastes 12:7 for the opposite of creation))

    Body + breath = a living soul
    Body - breath = death

    Lightbulb + electricity = light
Lightbulb - electricity = darkness(where did the light go?)

COMMENT:  Once we are born into the human family, we never go out of existence. Before Adam's creation, he DID NOT EXIST, but after his death, he still DID EXIST, albeit in the spirit that God preserved in His keeping just as He does for all that die. They cease to have conscious life, but they most assuredly "exist," else their life was of no value, and nothing would be carried over from this life into the next.

God is not some tyrant, monster and sadist who enjoys watching sinners suffering in torments without ending in some torture chamber. The fire goes out when its job is done(see Malachi 4:3). Sodom and Gomorrha are given as examples of eternal fire in Jude 7. Is Sodom and Gomorrha still burning? No, but the effects of the fire are eternal.

COMMENT:  No, the effects of that fire are not "eternal," but rather eonian. Sodom will once more be returned to her "former estate" (Ezek. 16:55).

The wicked dead right now are reserved to the day of judgment and punishment at the end of the world(or age). They aren't being punished right now. They are asleep awaiting the resurrection of damnation.

The Bible teaches eternal punishment not eternal punishing.

COMMENT:  The Bible may teach "eternal punishment" (actually "everlasting punishment is what the King James says. The term "eternal punishment" is not even found in the King James). But "everlasting" is a bogus translation. It should read "eonian chastisement," which does come to an end and the fruit of chastisement will be acquired. When the wicked are punished (chastised and judged) they will make spiritual progress and produce spiritual fruit:  "When Thy JUDGMENTS are in the earth the inhabitants of the WORLD WILL LEARN RIGHTEOUSNESS"  (Is.. 26:9).  But who believes Isaiah? Or God either for that matter?  ALL will be saved (I Tim. 2:4; :10; Phil 2:9-11; Eph. 1:10; I Cor. 15:28; etc.

If I die before Jesus returns I will sleep the sleep of death until the day of resurrection. That could be years or centuries to those affected by the passage of time but to me it would seem like just a couple of seconds. King David has been dead for 3000 years but to him it will only seem like a few seconds between him shutting his eyes and dying and seeing Jesus return on resurrection day.

COMMENT:  That one you got basically correct.

COMMENT:  Actually the "lake of fire" (not "hell" fire) starts AT the coming of Jesus Christ (Rev. 19:20).

True Spiritual Babylon and the False Prophet are cast into the lake of fire when Jesus returns but this isn't the world over and it is only referring to policital systems not people.

Dear Robbin:  I cannot rewrite and re-explain my entire Lake of Fire series one-on-one in separate emails. However:

When Jesus returns, He resurrects His saints, and  He "smites the NATIONS" with the sword that comes out of His mouth. (Rev. 19:15).
The "nations" of the earth are ALL THE EARTH.

His Judgments are upon:  "...ALL MEN both FREE, and BOND, both SMALL, and GREAT" (Verse 18). That's EVERYONE.

Jesus then takes "The beast and the false prophet" and casts THEM into the lake of fire (Verse 20). Are we so foolish as to think these are two individual MEN?

And everyone else who is left, the REMNANT, "...were slain WITH THE SWORD of Him that sat upon the horse...." ( Verse 21).  And ALL THESE--the CAPTAINS, MIGHTY MEN, ALL MEN, FREE, BOND, SMALL, GREAT, THE KINGS OF THE EARTH, ALL THEIR ARMIES, THE BEAST, THE FALSE PROPHET, AND THE ENTIRE REMNANT,  are just the "political system?"  No, the Scriptures clearly say something totally different.
God be with you,
Ray

It means stand in his grave at the resurrection.

No, no, no, Robins. A "lot" was a small object such as pebble, which was cast into a bag with the others and pulled out by chance so as to be at Jehovah's judgment (See Prov. 16:33).  It was used to determine the division of the land given to the different Tribes (Num. 26:55). It has absolutely nothing to do with a grave or a resurrection.

COMMENT:  No, "hell" appears 87 times in the King James Bible--65 in the Old and 23 in the New.

According to Blue Letter Bible website the word 'hell' appears only 54 times in the KJV. Here is all the verses listed:

Oops!  My mistake, Robbins.
You are correct: "hell" appears 54 times in the KJV. Here is where the 87 comes in. The Hebrew word "sheol" is found 65 times in the Old Testament, but it is translated hell ONLY 31 times out of those 65 times. It is translated "grave" 31 times and "pit" three times. So the WORDS that are translated "hell" in the Old and New Testaments are found 87 times. But only 54 of those times are they actually translated into the English word "hell." But the truth is that "sheol" should have been consistently translated the same way EVERY time it is found in Scripture. It NEVER takes on a different meaning that "the state of the dead" in any context. So actually, sheol should not have been translated "hell" even ONCE.
God be with you,
Ray
