Coat of Many Colors
« on: July 09, 2007, 11:59:11 AM »

In the paper "Twelve God Given Truths to Understanding His Word", in Truth
#8, Ray says, "Do you wear your 'coat of many colors', or do you hide it in
the closet?
What does he mean here, 'coat of many colors'?

Thanks

Hi Iris,

Josephs coat was given to him by his father.  His father was very proud of his son and wanted every one who came into concact with Joseph to know whos son he was and what he was all about.  So he gave Joseph a brightly colored coat to insure his recognition.

And so it is the same with our Father and his gift to us.  You have been given an understanding of the truth.  This is not something to be hidden from the world.  We are not to be ashamed of this.  Let it be known who you serve.  There should be no question as to where your alegince lies.

This coat we are given is usually not the best looking thing in the closet(far from it), at least this is our first impression.  You will definatly be making a fashion statement by putting it on!  Many will say that it is a fashion mistake!

The more this coat is worn though, the more comfortable you'll be in it and pretty soon its all you'll want to wear! (Lets hope God gives us some pants of many colors also)

Hello Iris,

Our coat of many colors is displaying charity, the culmination of a mature spirit, we live the things that we read, study and contemplate, as others observe us they may be drawn to ask "what is the source and motivation for the things we say and do?"

1Pe 3:15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

1Pe 4:8  And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

1Pe 4:9  Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

1Pe 4:10  As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

It is the outward manifestation of our faith that separates and distinguishes those He has chosen out of the earth and out of the sea of humanity.

His Peace and Wisdom to you,

Joe

funny thing you mentioned that.. I asked someone on this forum in the past about what a person wearing a coat of many colors meant..

I had a dream about someone wearing a coat of many colors and its nothing  you have ever imagined or seen..It was beautiful, I was simply in awe of  the coat,  and has wondered for years what the coat of many colors meant...I finally asked someone on this forum about it, and the person revealed that with scriptures that it was actually an honour to wear that coat and the elect will be wearing that coat...

I'll try to find the post and send it to you...

The short answer on this is the coat of many colors is Jesus Christ and His Spirit that manifests Itself in and through the lives of His own.

Interesting how the coat was drenched in blood by Joseph's brothers....

His Peace to you,

Joe

Hi Joe, your comment caused me to go read that part again...very interesting indeed:

Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild beast has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams." But when Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life." And Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood; cast him into this pit here in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him"--that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.
Genesis 37:20-22

And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;
Genesis 37:31

The word "kid" is defined as:

  • as sacrificial animal
satyr, may refer to a demon possessed goat like the swine of Gadara (Mat_8:30-32)
  (BBD)

And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering
Leviticus 16:5

In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the passover (Jesus), a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten. And upon that day shall the prince prepare for himself and for all the people of the land ....a kid of the goats daily for a sin offering.
Ezekiel 45:21-23

Peace,
Diana

Wow :o Joe, very interesting point indeed!!!

And Diana, great scripture!

That says a great deal about the world and it's carnal state doesn't it?  Unfortunatly for many that coat will come with a target sewed on its back!
