basic concepts
« on: August 02, 2007, 06:47:09 PM »

Here is something I have been pondering.  It seems like any discussion of doctrine true or false always comes back to the same couple concepts.  Here are some:

Sovereignty of God vs free will

Mortality vs immortality of the soul

                The origen of evil

Are there any more?  I am looking for core issues that that every false and true doctrine can trace it's roots to, hope I am making myself clear.

Do you mean something like:

Salvation of All vs Eternal torture in Hellfire?

No, I mean the reason there IS a salvation of all vs eternal torment.  Let me say it a different way.  If we could try to narrow it down to two biggest misunderstood concepts from whence all false doctrine originates, what would those two things be?

If I remember correctly, and I agreed with him when I heard it, Ray asked this at a bible study and then expounded on it.  I believe "free will" was one.  Can anyone remember the second one?

Sasscell,

A major fundamental misunderstanding is that we think it is all about us and it is not.

It is all about God and his plan.

Everything from good to evil to a character named Satan to salvation and the LOF is done for God's good pleasure and to teach, guide, cause us to at least eventually at the end of things in His order come to understand that God is all in all.

Hi Mark,

That was a Bible study that Ray had in Jan. on 'free will is an oxymoron.'  His opening statement is;
Two biggest scriptural errors of Christiandom:
1) the sovereignty of God
2) Judgment is not eternal

I'm in the process of transcribing this Bible study  :)

mercy, peace, and love
