Jesus wept

DizzyD:
     Greetings all,
This a.m. I was reading the 11th chapter of John. Since I "stumbled" across Rays' writings I now look at scripture differently than I did as a kid growing up in churchianity. Mainly instead of parroting the sayings of the preachers of Christiandom I question all the falseness spewed out and see things in a different light.
As i was reading this a. m. I read the shortest verse in the Bible, Jesus wept. Then I got to thinking about the subject in the off topics about the folded napkin and how if you don't know or don't dig into the culture during the time that Jesus was among us you would never understand the significance of the scripture pointing out the difference of the placement of the face cloth and burial gown.
So it got me to thinking what is the significance to point out that Jesus wept at this particular event , when He had raised others and there was no mention of what emotions may have been shown.
Was the culture of that era so that men didn't show emotions and if they did in public it was a statement that awed people or what?
If anyone of you have thought about this or have some thoughts and would like to share them please do, stuff like this puts my brain into vapor lock.

                                          Bud

ps ........Some may notice that I do not post a lot on the forum, the reason is because I am still a rookie in scriptural matters and in awe of the depth of a lot of the post here.  I come to the forum almost everyday to get a drink. I quickly pick up on some of the discussions and others are over my head and I read them until I just don't gleam any more from them. Then a couple of months later reread them to try to absorb more from them, and by the time I get a question formulated, someone else will ask it and the answer there.
So while the "grown ups" play in the deep end of the pool I stay down at the shallow end watching, hopefully learning ;D ;D

Love to you guys, in Christ

                                          Bud

I do the same, God has not given me enough understanding to post much yet.
What I understand though of Ray's teachings it all seems to be true.  :)

God Bless you BUDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!! LOL LOL sorry I had to do that :)

Hi Bud,
Got to thinking  did Jesus weep because He knew He would bring Lazurus  back into this world. While we are dead we CAN'T sin??

Just a thought??

God Bless

Hi Bud,

The way I see this situation is that Jesus knew Lazarus, Mary and Martha very well, as it says in verse 5  "And Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus."  He had been to their house to eat, when Mary sat at his feet, also verse 2  "(And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair,"  So He had knew them well and was good friends with them.
Jesus was a physical man with human emotions.  When Martha came out to meet Jesus she must of had fairly good control of her emotions, at that time and was not crying.  But when Mary came out to meet Him, she was crying and others were crying, I believe Jesus was showing the human emotion of compassion for them in their grief and was saddened by their distress at the lose of their brother.

John 11:33  Then when He saw her weeping, and also the Jews who came with her weeping, Jesus groaned in the spirit and troubled Himself. (GNB - His heart was touched, and he was deeply moved.)
v. 34  And He said, Where have you laid him? They said to Him, Lord, come and see.
v. 35  Jesus wept.

Jesus had remained away, so that Lazarus would die, because it was His intention to heal him, so the disciples could witness the miracle and verse 4 "... but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God might be glorified by it."

John 11:15  And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him.

I think Jesus was such close friends with them if he had been with Lazarus while he was dying, He would had been so griefed by his suffering that He would had healed him.

That's just how I look at this passage  :)

mercy, peace and love
