If heaven is not a literal place, where did Jesus go at His ascension?

When He was into the tomb, He had a literal body. When He was resurrected, that body was no longer in the tomb. He had a body that the disciples could literally touch, as did "doubting" Thomas.

Where is that body now?

thats a very intersting question
i've done a lot of reseach on the research on the resurection and this is my OPINION

1when he was resurected his body may have changed considering the fact that the everyone had a hard time recognizing him

2his body was probly destroyed when he acended to heaven and was given his new body

remember this is only my opinion

The best analogy this feeble mind can come up with is;

Just as water turns to water vapor, same essence, different properties, we will be changed, not replaced but changed, in an instant. His earthly body was instantly changed into spirit upon His resurrection.

Some will say but they were able to touch Him, or He was unrecognizable, sure. A spiritual body is capable of things we are not capable of imagining. But at least capable enough to present itself (Himself) in any form desired.

1Co 15:51  Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1Co 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Phi 3:20  For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:

Phi 3:21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Thanks Andrew, I was not able to link to the page (at this time) but here is Mike's take on the "third heaven" (and more) in printed form;

The body Jesus had was a Spiritual Body. Since by the Spirit all things came into being, a Spiritual Body is not ethereal to the physical realm. So the dust body was not destroyed when Jesus ascended, it was destroyed at the cross. The body Thomas touched was the Spiritual Body of Christ. Paul explained this very plainly in 1 Corinthians 15.

So....did Thomas LITERALLY touch it, or was it a vision or a spiritual experience?

This mystery prompted me to ask Ray if he beleived in Ghosts.
