49 = 7x7 = total completion/books of the Bible
CEO:
Two things:
For me the numbering (chapter and verse) is mainly important for referring back to scripture and for communicating scripture with others. I know nothing is random but as long as I get the scripture the numbering is not important to me. Kat, how can Malachi be the year 430 on the OT chart and not the most recent OT book?
Having the scripture as revealed is what matters and therefore the 'spurious verses' are the greatest help to me from the conference.
All the richness of the nuances, numbering, play on words and etc. that is the bible are something I will apreciate when I attain level 7x7 plus 3x3; I am on a much lower level now.
Really glad to meet with all at conference and to benefit from Ray's high level of teaching.

All those dates are BC. So his would be the most recent OT book. That would have been just 430 years before the birth of Christ, right.

I thought the same when I first scrolled down through the list. Obviously they did not canonize by date. It appears they used another method...did Ray expalin it, I missed it.
Kat:
After looking at the notes this is what I can make out of the order of Malachi.
Malachi is the last to be listed with the minor Prophets, but the minor Prophets are considered one Book. So it's date of writing is the most recent, that is in that section.
But Ezra is the last Book of the OT.
Here is a section of conference notes.
EZRA FINALIZED THE CANONIZATION OF THE OLD TESTAMENT:
All other periods of canonization are of little important compared to that of Ezra who made the final decision on all books. Approximately 444 BC Ezra publicly reads The Law in Jerusalem (Nehemiah 8 & 9), and Nehemiah is renamed Governor of Judah and began re-establishing proper worship (Nehemiah 5:14).
Ezra edited some books to make them more understandable. Example: Deut. 34:5-12 was added by Ezra (Moses did not record his own death).
Ezra edited numerous books to bring them up to date. He wrote the book of Ezra, Book of Nehemiah was previously known as II Ezra, and he wrote I & II Chronicles. He wrote THE LAST BOOKS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT!
