Babel An Inverted Pentecost?
hillsbororiver:
Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
And then we have this in Acts;
Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Quite a contrast between the results of the inspiration of men (in building carnal/heavenly things) versus the Inspiration of God (building spiritual/heavenly things)!
Man seeking heavenly things through his own effort brings confusion and chaos, the Spirit of Christ bestowing heavenly things to mankind brings understanding, peace and Spiritual growth.
His Peace and Wisdom to you,
Joe

That's a wonderful discovery, Joe!
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
This is also contrasted with the city of Jerusalem, God's city, coming down from God out of Heaven:
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Rev 21:2 KJV)
The true city is of God, not of men. We have to take instructions from God when we are building:
Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits. (2Ch 3:3 KJV)
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1Co 3:10-11 KJV)
Thank you for sharing what you saw, Joe.
God bless you,
Eirik

You are welcome Eirik,
Your addition is so true as the difference between Old Jerusalem (decrepitly carnal) and New Jerusalem (Christlike perfection)will be infinitely indescribable!
His Peace to you,
Joe

good stuff...
This will all be reversed completely when all man is glorified, speaking one language and of one accord and one mind and one spirit giving glory to God with a heavenly language singing heavenly hymns. This will all be amazing. Good find Joe.

Gregor:
Greetings Joe,
Very interesting topic. One of the things that drew my attention to Ray's site was his article on speaking in tongues. Before I ever read his expose, I knew there was an obvious error being taught in the pentecostal circles. Ray confirmed what I believed was true, although it felt like I was the only one in the circle at the time who could see it. As I studied more I came across a similar relation between Babel and Pentecost. In the days of Babel (just after the flood), God instructed the people to be fruitful and multiply, and to cover the face of the earth (go out). Instead, they tried to gather all together into one place, in the tower (reaching to the heavens, possibly man's fear-fuelled attempt to save himself in the event of another flood?) Then, before it could be completed, they spoke in different (new to them) tongues (languages) and were scattered over the face of the earth. On the day of pentecost the people gathered together in the upper room, waiting for the promise. When it came upon them, they spoke in different tongues (languages) and soon afterwards, they were sent out (apostles) to all nations. It would seem to be a part of Gods plan that His people inhabit the whole earth, likewise that his Spirit inhabit many people. One becomes many. Does this bear witness or am I confused?
