God warned Adam

Can someone help me thru this. God warned Adam not to eat the fruit, then God formed Eve. Adam was warned, Eve was not yet formed. This question has bothered me for years.

Hi Zidore,

Yes the order of the Scripture is as you said, v. 16 "God commanded the man" then v. 22 "made he a woman."

Gen 2:16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Gen 2:22  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.

But you will notice that later when the serpent was talking to Eve she knew that she was not to eat the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden.

Gen 3:2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Gen 3:3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

So whether it was God Himself that taught this to Eve or she learned it from her husband, she did know what she should not do.

Genesis 2:24 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

I think we can deduce from this scripture that seeing as they were to become one flesh (I say "were" because Adam had not yet "known" Eve), Adam shared all that God had taught him with Eve about the garden. Notice in verse 13 of Genesis 3, And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate." Here Eve knows the identity of the creature that has decieved her, and understands that she has been decieved. We're not told how she acquired this knowledge of the identity of the creature which decieved her. We're told that Adam gave the names to all living creatures. Again we can only deduce that he shared his knowledge with Eve.
