The order of things...
David:
Matthew 3:5 shows that Confession does not equal repentance. 5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan,
confessing their sins.
We know that few if any actually repented of their sins after their baptizm by John, and the confession of their sins, and none were converted in any way.
Deborah-Leigh:
Right David
Confession is not deliverance. Repentance is a gift from God :) Conversion is also a gift from God for those who have repented.
Peace to you
Arcturus :)
David:
Thank you Arcturus. Indeed Repentance is a gift from God, Amen.
Confession has nothing to do with it. As children we most often only confess once we've been found out, in the hope of avoiding getting a spanking. In most western cultures its customary in law to given credit (a lesser sentence) by the court if you plead guilty or confess, and many criminals know this and confess only for that reason if the evidence i stacked against them.
I see the scriptures about Johns baptizm ministry as he is pricking their conciences by his words.....thus through God causing them to confess.
Luke 3:7-9 7Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
In verse 10 the people ask what they should do, so obviously he has their attention and probably their concern.
Luke 3:17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.”
John warned them all to repent, but clearly they didn't.
Be blessed.
Deborah-Leigh:
Yes David
Admitting one is an alcoholic is not the last step to conversion ~ its the FIRST!
Peace to you brother
Arcturus :)
