Anointing Oil

Is the use of Anointing Oil scriptural? What's the basis? And can you use engine oil? Thanks, Andy


        Dear Andy:

        There are two examples in all Scripture regarding "anointing with oil" for the purpose of healing.  Mostly it has reference to recognizing someone for a high or spiritual office, such as anointing a king or priest. It was always done with olive oil, which signifies purity, health, light, life, and spirit. Physical rituals are not needed when one lives the spiritual application of the physical ritual--as with circumcision, for example.
