Just one more question.

woops:
I honestly don't know if ray wrote about this in his articles or in his emails, I looked and can't find it if he has.
I found myself thinking today about a bible chapter because one of my family members brought it up.
It's cor. 6-19, one of my family said that basically I should take better care of myself because my body is god's temple, I found myself looking up the verse in scripture(of course not knowing if the translation I had was correct), I looked up the verse online(especially on bible truths.com).  I wondered about this verse most of the day because I just don't understand it's meaning.  19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Now, my family member said take care of your body, be healthy and then you are glorifying god or honoring god(whatever your translation is) because your body is god's temple and if you take good care of it then you are doing as this verse says.

Is this true?  What does this verse mean, I read cor. chapter six and still do not understand.  What would honoring god or glorifying god with your body be in this chapter?

Would anybody care to shed some light on this?
Simply put, would anybody explain cor. chapter six, especially starting at verse 19.

Kat:

Hi woops,

When the Holy Spirit is given to someone God has chosen, they are then aware that God is working in them and this awareness brings with it a desire to live a life that honors the presents of God's indwelling Holy Spirit.

1Cor. 6:17  But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

1Cor. 6:19  Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

1Cor. 6:20  For you were bought at a price...

Christ died for us, He shed His blood, that was paying the ultimate price, the most precious gift.  It was so that we may be redeemed - rescued - purchased and He did it voluntarily.

Act 20:28  Therefore take heed to yourselves... which He (Jesus Christ) purchased with His own blood.

Rev 5:9 ...For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood...

1Cor. 6:20 ...therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

We show honor to God by fleeing from sin, that harms the body and/or the spirit, as Paul expounds in these next verses.

Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom 6:12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Rom 6:13  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

I hope this helps  :)

Linny:
I agree with Kat completely. Our body now belongs to Christ who "bought" it. To me, it means that I should use my body in ways that honor this gift. If I am sinning with my body, I am not honoring Him.

If I am not taking care of my body, I am not honoring Him with my body. I think your family is correct but just not taking in the entire picture. They are correct in that if I am sickly and running to ungodly sources to "fix" myself like all the horrific pharmaceuticals out there now, then I am taking up valuable time involved in things that harm my body and go against how my body was so wonderfully designed. At the same time, I cannot serve Him if I am sick.

Dante:
You can do nothing without God.
If you try to do it on your own, you will ultimately fail.
It has to come from God.

SO,........

Don't FOCUS ON YOUR SINS, or your bad habits or whatever (We ALL HAVE THEM).
Focus on the word of God.
Pray and read (Study) the word of God.
Focusing on your sin will only make you want to sin more.
Hence, tell a child not to do something and he or she will want to do it all the more. Yet, if you focus on the love of God, those sins will become less and less important.

When others tell you to stop doing something because it is bad for you. A lot of the time they are saying it so that they feel better about themselves (Not always, but plenty).

When they tell you to stop doing something since it is bad for you and not what God wants. You ask them to pray for you, Since you cannot do it (Or anything for that matter on your own), only God can.

And if they persist in telling you it is wrong and that God wants you to stop. Tell them that you don't have a FREE WILL and that THEY WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH GOD, if they don't like it.
Do they have sins that are apparent??
Or are their sins WELL HIDDEN? Do they like to gossip? Or lie??
How would they like it if every time you heard them Gossip, you told them to stop it because it wasn't good for them.

We are not to be entrenched in Legalism!!!

Paul didn't want to sin, yet he found himself doing the things he hated.

Are we any better???

The power to do or not do ANYTHING is IN THE WORD OF GOD,....not us.
The old man is dead, the only way of empowering the NEW man is by every word out of the mouth of God, for that is food which strengthens the NEW MAN.

Deborah-Leigh:

This thread makes me ask, what is the body?

Flesh and blood will not inherit the Kingdom of God which is within. We are vessels made of clay (flesh and blood). For me,  our spiritual body is not clay but is made up of our motives, thoughts and desires. This shows the condition of our heart, who we are and how we act and why we do things the way we do things which expresses our spiritual body. As a man thinketh...you know...Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks...and the tongue is the smallest member of the body...etc

God sets the circumstances and how we respond manifests the condition of our hearts. That is who we are in our spiritual body that has to be regenerated by the Spirit of Christ into conformity with His Mind and Heart and not our minds and hearts made of clay. This can only be done by the work of God in us via His Spirit of Truth. We are all God's work in progress! HIS Body is perfect and faultless.  8) and His thoughts and ways are still not our thoughts and ways yet!

Peace to you

Arcturus :)
