How old is mankind??
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:58:46 AM »

I have so many questions about alot of different things concerning what the bible teaches and some science teachings. One is about how long humans been living on earth. Science teaches one thing and The Bible teaches another. I'm a big fan of the history channel and they were talking about a super volcano that erupted in7400 wiping out almost 90% if human.  I'm sure someone can direct me to Ray's teaching on subjects like this. I feel that I'm taking up to much time of Ray when I email him. So this might be better.

I hope y'all aren't getting tired of my questions.

                                                 Thank you Darren

Well some Christians who have a very literal view of the Bible think the earth is ~6,000 yrs old but the scientific community puts it at around 4 billion years old. Personally I believe the scientists.

Three skulls have been discovered in Ethiopia that date 160,000 years ago.

"Homo sapiens appeared sometime between 100,000 and 300,000 years ago, and controversy has raged over whether there was a single African origin or whether other hominids such as Homo erectus and Neanderthals made a significant contribution to the evolution of modern humans by interbreeding."

I am a bit perplexed on this issue but I hope that maybe Ray can shed some light at the Nashville conference.

Hi Darren,

At the Mobile conference last year Ray spoke about how the “This is the BOOK of the generations of Adam” (Gen. 5:1), was passed down to Moses you can track this and figure out how long that was.

Transcript of audio 3, 2007 Mobile Conference
http://forums.bible-truths.com/index.php/topic,5815.0.html ------

There already apparently existed histories and genealogies of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Jacob’s children.
v
Gen 5:1  This is the book [Heb.- writing, register, scroll, BOOK] of the generations of Adam.  In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

Moses had a book, he didn’t write it, he had it.  Where did he get it?  Well undoubtedly Adam had it, and God gave Adam material.  God taught Adam a language, Adam knew how to read and write, he had a language and vocabulary.
How though, do we get this from Adam to Moses?  Well it’s not as difficult as you might think.  Now if these were the earliest records or books that some race processed, don’t you think they were kind of valuable!
v
v
Now Adam did not canonize any Bible.  Moses was the first.  How did Moses get these books?  Well it’s not as hard as you may think.  Methuselah born in 3254 BC, knew his great, great, great, great grandfather Adam (who died in 3011) for 243 years before he died.  This is interesting stuff.  These dates are estimates of course.  Noah (born 2885) was 600 years old when the flood came and Methuselah died in the year of the flood.  So Noah had already known Methuselah 600 years.
If Methuselah got these books from Adam, whom he knew for 243 years, then he could have easily passed these on to Noah.  Whom he had known for 600 years and then Noah would bring them through the flood.  It’s no other way books are going to survive a flood, they had to be brought on the ark.
----------------------------------------------

Here is a timeline from a Bible study last year.  You can see the overlaps of the lives of Adam and Methuselah and then Noah.  It appears that Noah lived at the time of Abraham, then Isaac and Jacob and then it goes to Joseph which brings us to Moses.

I had this topic up a year ago about the popualtion of the earth, I thought you might like to see this too.

These are some interesting charts and statistics I thought I would share.
I think they speak for themselves.

-According to the U.S. Census Bureau as of April 2008 the world population is 6,662,809,169.  We have passed the 6 1/2 billion mark.
-2,000 years ago the estimated human population was 150 million
-By 1850, the human population was one billion. By 1930, it was 2 billion.
-It took 10,000 generations to reach 2 billion.
-The human population is now growing at a rate of about 3 people/second or 260 thousand/day or 1.8 million per week or 93 million/year
