Just a thought I had while doing the dishes:

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1Jn 2:2 KJV)

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1Jn 4:10 KJV)

Propitiation
PROPITIATION, n. propisia'shon.

1. The act of appeasing wrath and conciliating the favor of an offended person; the act of making propitious.

2. In theology, the atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God to assuage his wrath and render him propitious to sinners. Christ is the propitiation for the sins of men. Rom 3. 1 John 2.

Jesus Christ payed for the sins of the world. How did He pay for those sins? Through His death.

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (Rom 5:10 KJV)

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Rom 8:34 KJV)

He payed the price by dying because:

[...] the wages of sin is death; [...] (Rom 6:23 KJV)
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. (Eze 18:20 KJV)

Jesus lived without sin, and was therefore a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Even so, He payed the price for us.

For he hath made him to be [a] sin [offering] for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2Cor 5:21 KJV)

The church teaches that the punishment for sins is everlasting torture in Hell. If Jesus had to pay that punishment, He would never finish paying the price. He would never be able to say "It is finished!". So, the church does NOT believe that Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world, simply because they say that the punishment is eternal. In line with their teaching, Jesus Christ ought to be in in Hell right now paying the price. For all eternity!

In that way, Christ cannot complete His work, He cannot resurrect, and our faith is in vain. We don't have a Saviour!

But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. (1Co 15:13-14 KJV)

LOL! That's a good idea. As a matter of fact they were 'delayed' a bit. Today, while looking for something else I came across a website with quotes. According to one of the quotes, Jesus didn't really say It is finished, the Greek means, fully paid! If this is true it's a very strong witness to the fact that it was paid, in full! Then I guess any theologian is cornered. 'It is finished' is a lot easier to explain away than the simple 'It is paid in full'.

I would advise you change your name Eggi, because it is quite out of place with someone who does dishes and makes such profound scriptural observations. May I suggest WOW!
