I will be praying for both of you Rick and agree with you that His will be done, on Earth, As it is in Heaven.

1 Peter 5
10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 31:
24Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Dear Rick and Shelly

I've been through the mill brother so I can identify with both of you. My prayers are certainly with you and will continue, please keep us posted. Take heart: "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?" (Rom.8:28-32).

All is of God, brother and sister, all is of God.

God bless you brother and sister in our joint walk in Christ.

Love in Christ Jesus.

Hi Rick,

This is certainly a firey trial, I pray that God will give you and Shelly the faith and courage to stand strong.

Rom 5:1-2
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

My Wife and I went for a surgical consultation today.  It was a heart wrenching decision but we decided together to go with the Modified Radical Mastectomy.  The operation is schedule for next Tuesday, June 24th.

We know that God is our Comforter... it's just that we still cry in His Presence.
Please keep us in your prayers.

Just a note:  My Wife had been taking Estrogen in its natural form for the last five years.  It is believed that this is what could have caused her cancer.  My Wife was raised to believe that natural things were better for you.  She had researched Natural Estrogen and found nothing indicating that it could cause cancer.  Needless to say the contents of her bottle of estrogen is now in the sewer.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for keeping us updated, and we continue to pray for you and Shelly through her surgery and recovery!  My Friend was just considering taking hormones (natural) to battle the fatigue suffering from the "change".  After reading your post, that idea is down the "sewer" with Shelley's pills!

Do you have supportive family & friends to encourage you through this?

I am writing this as information for you and the board. When something is labeled "natural" it does not mean harmless.  Every Estrogen out there except one is synthetic. The "natural" one is Premarin...it comes from horses urine...it is totally natural and bio-identical for the horse.

All other estrogens and progesterone/progestins (the 2nd hormone) are synthesized by the pharmaceutical ....but are bio-identical...that means they are chemically just like your body would produce. This includes all those special compounded formulas as well.

Regarding estrogen and breast cancer,  it is not as simple as just taking these chemicals.  There are many factors not always known to the medical profession, including genetics. Your body is unique in how it handles what the world throws at it.

When you take estrogen it is metabolized...it is these metabolites that do the actions not estrogen itself.  Many people do not metabolize even their own estrogens properly.

There are also substances like pesticides and other substances that chemically are not even related to hormones but that because of the 3 D configuration bind to the same receptors as estrogen and when they do they cause action. There are many of these in our environment.

Eating cruciferous vegtables (they have indole 3), it causes estrogen to be metabolized to its least harmful metabolites. It is these metabolites that attach to the DNA and start cell mis-behaving.  Cruciforous vegetables are broccoli cauliflower brussel sprouts cabbage. Eat on serving a day. It reduces other cancer also.

Drinking excess amounts alcohol can raise the serum hormone level by 500%

The other substance implicated in Breast Cancer is low  Vitamin D levels. You get it milk and the skin makes it after expose for i5 minutes of sunlight.

Another factor is body fat, it is the fat cells that store hormones, they are not sitting there inert, they also produce a lot of inflammatory response. they surround these breast cells.

Rick and Shelly do not sit there feeling guilty about taking estrogen. They can test estrogen and progesterone receptors of the cancer and if present they have another tool to fight with .

Here is something also to ponder
SEATTLE, Jan. 15 2008 -- Postmenopausal women who take combination hormone therapy for as little as three years have a fourfold increased risk of invasive lobular breast cancer, researchers
here said.

But short-term use of estrogen/progestin hormone replacement therapy appeared to have little effect on the risk of invasive ductal carcinoma, according to Christopher Li, M.D., Ph.D., of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center here, and colleagues.

The case-control study of more than 1,500 women confirms earlier, smaller investigations that linked combination hormone therapy with lobular breast cancer, the researchers reported in the January issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention

If you are having this radical surgery make sure they discuss the reconstruction of the breast also. Let the office check with your insurance before.

Rest in the Lord for right now.

Hello Rick(Snowfire),

Sorry to hear about your wife(Shelly), My Wife(Freckle Girl) and I will pray that everything turns out okay. I'ts nice to have a Doctor(Beloved) on board, generally speaking, I don't have too much faith in Doctors and Lawyers, especially Lawyers, no offense intended toward those members who occupy these positions. It was nice that Beloved shared that information with you. My wife's ancestry includes those who have had cancer related to your situation. Anyway, we will pray for a successfull outcome and pray both of you are able to endure the trial set before you.

                                            Faith, Hope and Love, Samson.

No but fresh food is always better, because it is still alive and more good things are available. I cook some but like them bright green.

Do not go crazy with them though....they can also be goitregenic (those with thyroid disease should  eat them in moderation)

My favorite recipe is the rainbow salad, shredded broccoli in the bags. I put walnuts and blueberries and make a dressing with mayonaise and pineapple juice , little salt.

Sauerkraut (cabbage) is high in Vtamin C, I mix applesauce in it. The poor ate this in the winter. I get the stuff in the bags not the jars. I will order coleslaw if it is creamy instead of fries.

Dear Rick and Shelly

I pray that the Lord may grant your dear wife Shelly a full recovery in accord to His predestined will, to appear to the world as a miracle for those who witness it. This goes out to Him many times a day brother because I know from experience what she means to you.

God bless you brother and sister in our joint walk in Christ.

Love in Christ Jesus.

You will both remain in my prayers.

I am not a doctor, but have lots of experience taking clients to medical appointments. One of my clients survived massive breast cancer 3 years ago. The doctor left a port in her chest after her chemo therapy just in case she needed more. Last year we almost lost her from heart failure that we almost didn't catch. The cardiologist told us that either the chemo therapy damaged her heart or the port that was left in damaged her heart. I'm just telling you this so you can follow up with a cardiologist later so the same thing doesn't happen to you. It was probably a rare case with my client, but if it were me I would have my heart checked after treatment and periodically. My client is doing well now with an implanted defibrillator.

Lots of prayers,
MG

Hello Everyone.  My Wife had her surgery yesterday and today is a home with me recuperating .  She is doing remarkably well and is in good spirits.  We are at peace with what has been done and are comforted by it.  This has been a very humbling experience and made even more humbling to realize that my Wife’s cancer would have not been found had God not afflicted me first.  Two years ago we moved to this area where we now reside.  We had not yet acquired a family physician since we had moved there.  Three months ago I developed a sharp excruciating pain in my abdomen that necessitated that I seek out a Physician.  I truly believe that if I had not become sick, my Wife would not have resumed her breasts exams that she had so diligently pursued in the past.

Now we are waiting for her to heal and start chemo, and possibly radiation.

Thank You All for Your Prayers and Support.
Rick & Shelly
